I don't think it's so much a ''poison chalice'' more a club failing to find a manager to deal with the huge expectations that exist there - they went for promotion big style when the new owner took over in 2012, they failed and in doing so suffered the wrath of the FL due to incurring massive FFP penalties; managers since then have all, unreasonably, been expected to push for promotion with very little in the way of a transfer budget, add to that the expectation of the fans and their wealthy owners and you have a recipe for disaster/failure. My Forest supporting son tells me the club will be clear of FFP restrictions this season, he expects, that with the right manager in charge, Forest will be more of a force next season (he's as delusional as every football supporter, bless 'im). Nigel Pearson could easily be that man.
You're right of course, he does struggle with his weight, but I used to love watching him play football; his passing was everything that Huddlestone's has never really reached. Shame how life turns out for some of em.
Forest could be very good next season with him at the helm, though they could just as easily be a disaster. More likely the former IMO.
I see Jeremy Clarkson is now 400/1 to be the next Arsenal manager. The only listing with longer odds is Piers Morgan.
Nottingham Forest are reportedly set to appoint former Olympiakos boss Marco Silva as their new manager. His win rate at Olmpiakos was 82.22%.
Nottingham Forest have named former Real Sociedad and Rennes manager Philippe Montanier as their new gaffer.
