I wouldn't say that's looking for the bad. It's a fair question even if you may disagree.

    Your last line is irrelevant.

Not sure why that's either here or there.

If you read my next post you'll see I clarified that about Liam.

My last line isn't really irrelevant. What I'm saying is that a goal keeping coach (let's for sake of argument say he knows his job) would be better qualified to judge than me or Liam. I'm saying that if our coaching staff didn't believe in Fraser, then he wouldn't have got the contract.

And nothing. Were you expecting more.? Just imagine if it was Tommy Forecast extending his contract. You'd have a different emotion. You are underwhelmed simply because you don't rate Fraser that highly, I'm assuming.

Yes I would accept more money for the same job.

And yes I was, as frankly that has **** all to do with the discussion at hand.

Recently they probably have because I don't come on here as much and there's not a lot to get excited about atm. I'm also a cynical bastard.

I hope that empty life of yours is treating you well *there was supposed to be a wink emoji here*

    Cool.

I'm glad we had this utterly pointless exchange <doh>

    Edit- didn't see your edit.

Your question is still pointless as I'm not criticising Fraser for taking it. I'm criticising the club for offering it.

I hear the signing went well. He didn't have to deal with any crosses in a box.

Only kidding. I like our Frase. One of our better keepers in more recent seasons.

Wow, we have a good history of top keepers.

It is possibly a psychological thing. I can't believe that neither the club nor Fraser were satisfied with his performances last season (but equally, in my view, a fit and on form Fraser is easily good enough for us), so possibly this is the club's way of telling him that we back him, despite last season. If there is no payrise, and it is just a contract extension, then I would be fairly certain that's what we're looking at. But I have no idea on the financials.

But if it isn't anything to do with that, then I am firmly in the camp of this being such a strange decision (especially if a payrise is involved). His contract wasn't running out. We don't have any big clubs knocking at the door, who we're hoping he will ignore. He hasn't just come off the back of a season that deserved a reward (you need to be fair to the whole squad here). He was probably already one of our highest earners.

I'm not unhappy with this. He gets a pay rise and he's at least one player who will be here for next season. He should get decent competition from McCarthy this season which hopefully will improve his game.

It's a nice change to hear someone saying they are happy here rather than constant rumours of other clubs after our dissatisfied players.

Just out of interest who do people think we should be signing if we had sold Forster? The fees have gone mad so that would rule a fair few out I would imagine.

Could it be a clause in his contract that keeps him at least in line with another player(s)? E.g. Has to be on at least as much as most/2nd most expensive defender or some such? If we were to sign someone like Davinson Sanchez (transfer rumour thread guess up), could that then invoke a clause in Fraser's contract?

Possibly. But that isn't signing a new contract. It's activating a mandatory clause in your current contract.

This is simple really. Saints rate Forster and have rewarded him with a revised contract. This isn't rocket science.
