The last two FRANKEL's through the ring make 235,000gns and 700,000gns respectively. Juddmonte were the under bidders on the final lot.
As the maths would take a while to work out, I'm going to use the sales figure conversions that the Racing Post have already done for the first crop yearlings: 24 catalogued 16 offered 11 sold Highest price £1,255,076 Average £487,826 Compare this to the big hitters: GALILEO average £497,951 for 24 sold (high of £1,303,258) DUBAWI average £663,933 for 11 sold (high of £2,105,263)
Pretty similar the 3 of them, with Dubawi's number somewhat skewed by the very expensive filly. Princess am I correct in saying that Frankel already stood out a mile as a yearling and that's why they picked him for the name? I'm sure he has already produced some lovely looking individuals but, as you said, they won't be seeing the sales ring .................. Thanks as ever for the updates
I believe the story goes that Juddmonte had reserved the name "Frankel" with a view to using it on their best yearling. I don't know if they specifically intended to use it that year, or if they were prepared to wait until the right horse came along. Frankel was always highly rated as an individual, based on his conformation and attitude, so he became the logical choice. I don't know if others are aware, but Frankel's pet name is Bobby.
