Princess does the sale start at 11am tomorrow and if so I see So You Think and Excelebration have one or two out tomorrow how have they been getting on in the sales ??
A buy back means the person selling the horse has "bought" the horse back to prevent it selling for too low a price. It means the horse doesn't get listed as "reserve not achieved". So You Think has had 11 yearlings sell for an average of 27,512gns with the highest price 66,445 gns. Excelebration has had 15 yearlings sell for an average of 69,789 and a high price of 251,051gns.
If I had anywhere near enough to think about buying horses I wouldnt mind going to war with a few cheap So You Think offspring! I think he will produce one or two special ones, he was a might fine stamp of a horse and one of the truly top class Aussie/NZ middle distance types. Very, very excited to see how Frankel gets on, but especially with the middle distance fillies with which he has 'been involved with'.
I see on the taterstalls website you can actually make an offer on it for any of the 'lots'! Very easy had better stay clear of the website if I came back from a night out
Sale gets underway at 11am again this morning. In addition to the Frankel's on offer some lots to watch include: Lot 184 a full-brother to Equiano Lot 264 a full brother to Al Kazeem Lot 287 a half-brother to Aussie Rules
The Dynaforce filly sold to Al Shaqab for 450,000gns. In an update to yesterday's sale Lot 23 was later sold privately outside the ring for 150,000gns.
Interestingly, Juddmonte have signed for the colt out of Heaven Sent, paying 620,000gns. Considering they already own the real cream of the crop they must have liked this individual very much.
No he hasn't to date. The only way it would happen is if she travels up here to visit him as Juddmonte will never shuttle him - none of the Juddmonte stallions have shuttled since Zafonic died in a paddock accident in Australia about 10 years ago. If they travelled her they would have to lose a breeding year with her - they can't send her up here in foal on a Southern Hemisphere covering as she'd be giving birth in the autumn up here which is unfair to the foal. I'd presume they'd want a Southern Hemisphere time Frankel foal so she'd need to travel up here in the summer, to be covered in September/October and then sent back to Australia after she's confirmed in foal.
Toppy, it would seem from Black Caviar's two matings to date, that she will probably only breed in Australia. Her first foal, a filly was by Exceed And Excel and her second, a colt by Sebring, are bred for speed. Maybe they'll try for a bit of stamina a bit later, but if her first two foals are any indication, her owners are looking capitalise on the 2 year old money on offer down here. Breed for speed.
Sounds like they aren't selling too well. Is that because they don't look anything special or because there are too many of them and the serious bidders are holding off for later ones, or because they want to see him proven before they invest too heavily. I'm assuming there is a fairly short list of BIG spenders. So if they aren't interested there's no-one to push up the price.
I think it's a combination of things, in some cases the sellers are probably being greedy and putting too high a reserve on the horses. Buyers aren't stupid, they wont pay over the odds for an individual if it's not the full package. Also the ones being sold are, in the main, not the best of the crop, those are in the hands of the owner/breeders and until they come out in public we won't know what they are like. Someone commented to me that the lack of "type" has thrown a few people, apparently it's hard to gauge one against another as they are, in the main, throwing to the dam.
