    Yes Tattersalls are in Guineas.

Considering today includes a full brother to WAS (by Galileo), a Frankel colt out of Dar Re Mi and a half-brother to Sole Power (by Sepoy) there could be some fireworks all round!

My gut says the Dar Re Mi (148) makes at least 1.5million.

We're off and running at Tatts with Lot 7 currently in the ring, so expect the first Frankel within the next hour.

Lot 123 makes 190,000 though I didn't quite catch the buyer so will wait for the sales page to be updated.

The HEAVEN SENT is Lot 230 so sells tomorrow.

Turns out Lot 23 was a Vendor Buyback according to the results sheet.

Top class fillies seem not to have a particularly good record when going to stud. Are there any stats to back that up? I think there was a theory as to why that might be. Any ideas? Urban Sea is one obvious exception.

I don't know about stats, but certainly if you reel a few off the top of your head (Soviet Song, Russian Rhythm, Pebbles for example), none of them have exactly been breed-shaping.

One theory I've often heard bandied about is that many good fillies seem to be a bit more coltish in demeanor and physicality, perhaps due to a larger than normal amount of testosterone. Whilst this is good for building strength on the racecourse, it can be a problem when it comes to pregnancy and producing good quality foals. Soviet Song in particular has a real issue in getting in foal, and staying that way. I think I'm right in saying that in 7 years at stud she's only produced 2 live foals, Soviet Dream by Oasis Dream, who managed just 2 starts aged 3 finishing 12th and 14th respectively, and a now yearling by Speightstown.

Testosterone levels be measured so it would be interesting/useful to know these levels in:
    • fillies in training
    • mares due for stud

Lot 125 sells for 280,000gns but they didn't announce who to. Could be another buy back, we'll wait for the details to go up.

Thanks for posting that, I was in the car on my way home do missed it!

Could still be a vendor buyback as Gosden is one of the Lloyd-Webber's trainers.

I'll take an unsold one for a couple of hundred quid if they're struggling!

It's been confirmed Gosden was acting on behalf of Al Shaqab.

Lots 160 and 163 are late withdrawals.

In the end, all of today's Frankel's were buybacks with the exception of the Dar Re Mi.

It would suggest vendors are putting too high a reserve on them and hoping the sheer fact they're by Frankel will get them the £££ even if they're not a perfect physical specimen.
