Finished the Frankel biog on holiday recently. A really interesting read and thoroughly enjoyed it with some great insights. A few random things that stood out. The quality of oppo in Frankel’s first race. Had no idea he’d beaten Nathaniel. Colour Vision well down the field would go on to win a Gold Cup. Frankel was a bit of a nutter at home. Cecil was one of few trainers that insisted that the horses were worked regardless of the weather. He reasonably figured that you had no control on the elements on race day so important for his horses to work in all conditions. I find it quite staggering that he was very much in the minority in this aspect. Finally Warren Place had very little security in place. I assumed with a horse of his value there would be cameras and security staff on site. Cecil apparently reasoned that as Frankel was such a grumpy individual woe betide any stranger who dared to enter his barn. Many more fascinating insights and a recommended read.
I remember visiting Warren Place during Frankel’s final season, he was pretty much one of the first horses you saw as you got into the yard - as you say a security nightmare!
