What are Frankel's best prospects for top quality 3YO races this season?
There haven't been many to catch my eye but I think Suphala is well regarded by Andre Fabre.
Only 10th on her debut at Deauville but the Prix Marettes is a contest for unraced fillies that usually attracts entrants from the top trainers and sometimes throws up useful talent.
Suphala won her next race, a maiden over 1 mile at Chantilly and she showed a nice turn of foot that day to win in promising style. Kept to moderate company on her third start in a Conditions race back at the Chantilly mile, she made all and held off Jean-Claude Rouget's Commes with a bit to spare. Commes had won her only previous start in promising style herself and was narrowly favourite for the race, while a well bred Freddie Head filly was third, getting 6 lbs from the previous winners.
The Racing Post have only rated Suphala 92 for now but I think she is a lot better than that and in a year where classy French fillies are thin on the ground I feel she may be the one to emerge as a French Guineas candidate. She is entered in the Newmarket 1000 Guineas and Fabre's patience can be rewarded with a win in one of the Spring trials.
Our own 1000 Guineas is wide open this season and Suphala may well turn up if she has trained on. 25/1 is the odds of reward for Newmarket and she is the one I feel may give Frankel a boost from the maiden winners and into the big time.
Yes. Having seen her last win I had to nap her in the Sat Comp. Decent price really. Expected odds onYou must log in or register to see media
