Morning All,

re. Paynter, I would give him a big surprise for his birthday! Having been one of his major critics, I would consider keeping him on for a bit if we don't get any decent bids - or even a medium term loan. Why, you ask? Well, actually I was quite impressed by him at the end of the season. Sadly he didn't get an extended run (injured, wasn't he?). He had lost a lot of weight, put in a shedload of weight, and looked hungry as hell. Really surprised me and quite a few others , I guess. With all that added energy, he might just surprise us! Then again .... ;)

Still lacks the abilty. Put him in the Andy Hughes bracket, but I know where your coming from. He did come back looking a lot leaner and worked his ass off <ok>

I like this idea of keeping Paynter. I just wonder if working with a different manager (Warnock as opposed to Grayson), might it make a difference. As I've said before, he was L1 top scorer a couple of years ago. He's been injured a lot. Maybe this hasn't helped. If he's still here come pre-season friendlies, it would be interesting to see how he gets on. If he came back firing & Somma returned to fitness, maybe Warnock would be able to take his time looking for an additional striker.

Anyway, u no wot still has to happen before we can all really move on.

One thing we have not discussed is loan signings. If we can get a couple of decent young prem starlets on a season long season from one of the big boys, who's for that?

Just read on the Portsmouth OS, Hayden Mullins was on £20,000 a week..... He has signed for the Blues taking a drastic pay cut.

Delph on a season long loan would be good. Lambert has confirmed he will be loaned out to the Championship, lets just hope we can get in for him <ok>

Sorry, but don' want Delph back. How long's he been away for, and what has he done in that time? When he came back to us (briefly!), he looked like he was the same player. No development whatsoever. Petulant, spending too much time on the ball, highly questionable tackles. No thanks, he's too much of a risk. There are better options, and I'm sure Warnock is right on the ball with them,

Was he much use when he came back on loan? Don't think he fits into the "Warnock" mould.

he wasnt fit when he came back to us, which is the reason he came!

Young full of energy can tackle & has a full tank. I would say thats the mould we need in the middle. Better than anything we have got at the moment but I can understand your points totally.

Delph coming back was just a smoke screen for the Howson sale to try and keep the fans on side. He shouldnt have been playing at all, far to unfit.

Saints legend Claus Lundekvam has claimed he, his teammates and opposition captains were involved in widespread spot fixing.
In an interview with a Norwegian TV channel, as part of a look at a match fixing scandal rocking the game in his home country, the former St Mary’s captain revealed dubious betting habits during his time with Saints.

Though he insists there was never any attempt to fix results, he admits players pooled large amounts of money and gave it to club staff to lay bets on things such as who would win the first corner, the first throw-in and yellow cards.

Lundekvam, who made over 400 appearances for Saints in a 12 year stay at the club, said: “It’s not something I’m proud of.

A fit Delph coming back for a season would be a good deal. An injured Delph back to just get his fitnes up a bit wouldn't be a lot of help, especially as it would appear Warnock is looking to seriously strengthen the midfield.

The Lundekvarm story is just worrying on so many levels. Potentially a serious can of worms being opened.,

When he came back here he looked a class above the rest, got stuck in, confident on the ball and wonderful control anyone who wouldnt have him back is daft.

I am not saying I wouldn't, I was just posing a question. I never got to see him while on loan and just wondered if he fitted the type of player Warnock seems to be looking at <ok>

A fit Delph is quality we can't afford to lose, if we get offered him. He wasn't fit last season and has gone backwards because of the original injury, but he played a lot of games for Villa at the start and impressed .... then the injury. He needs to re-establish himself now and show wjhat he can do, and won't get the chance in the prem, so lets have him back, as long as he's fit.

The dodgy betting has been going on for years, anyone remember the team that was shown kicking off on MOTD a few years ago, the ball was lumped into touch 1.2 seconds from the off. Someone made a shed load of cash on that, and believe it was le tissier at saints:cheesy:

Read a story about Le Tiss trying to hump it out for a throw within the first few seconds but Shipperly kept it in! So he run around like a nutter trying to put it out, he did on the 75th second meaning no one lost any money but no one won any either. Disgusting really, but he feared he could get knee capped if he didnt get the ball out!

All the money they get paid and they think its acceptable to top it up with dodgy bets? Shame on the lot of them, I am sure its happened at the majority of the major clubs.
