Surely Campbell wouldn't pass any fit and proper tests or provide the show of funds required? I know somehow Donald and Methven got through but now in hindsight, it may well have been down to their pal Rodwell being on the board.

Just got to look at Wigan, their new owners took over the club 2 months ago in the middle of this pandemic and has just put the club into administration....youve got to ask what the hell are the EFL doing in these tests?

Remember when the pools was popular. When the season finished you had to bet on the Australian leagues. As if you had any clue of the teams.....
What happened was me and my mate Scobe were bored as hell when the season finished so we chose two **** teams in the third division and they climbed up to division 1 over 4 or 5 seasons ( late 70s early 80s ) we had more luck with them than our teams ( Scobe’s is Leicester) bastard <laugh>

I used to ‘follow’ Doveton - picked them as they were second division as we were at the time. Not looked at their progress for years now but they weren’t great!

Just had a look, ironically they are in division three of the Victoria State League!

As I only give a stuff about SAFC and right now my appetite in football is at an all time low, If Sunderland went tits up, I think that would be me done with football
Same here, couldn't care less about other clubs. Not interested in watching other football and never really have been. I am a Sunderland fan and without them I would be done with the game altogether.

As a result, the most powerful influence on both groups would become confirmation bias, where a strong desire for what we wish to be true biases our assessment of truth, towards affirmation and away from refutation.

Some supporters were similarly influenced by confirmation bias and their excitement overruled the likelihood that the offer was genuine. Social media suggested that motivated reasoning was strongly in evidence, where we rationalise supporting evidence for a conclusion we have already arrived at.

For example, some fans suggested that if there was anything suspicious about Campbell, “John Park wouldn’t be involved”, others that “Sunderland would have found out”. Here we see how easily ‘unexamined beliefs’ (a.k.a. assumptions) can easily be converted into plausible narratives which address the cognitive dissonance we feel, when there is misalignment between what we wish to be true and evidence which counters our beliefs. Some fans further reasoned that multiple business failures were simply confirmation of Campbell’s entrepreneurialism, and one even cited the sexual harassment allegations as evidence of his super wealth.

Is that Abo lingo for dogging/dingoing?
I might be hijacking this thread regarding racism and BLM but it’s a good example of how the words that people use and think that they’re not racist when in fact they are. The term Abo is just as offensive to an indigenous Australian as the term ****** is to an African American.

True!

Personally, I find the term 'mackem' offensive too. Never heard it when I was growing up so don't relate to it at all.

Mind, a grown man having an avatar of a woman dressed as a schoolboy might also offend some - :emoticon-0105-wink:
