Just reading Forshaw contract is expiring at the end of the season. He can start looking for a new club come January. Realistically if we offered pay as you play he’d be off if he didn’t get injured so it’s really down to a new contract offer or not?

If he turns out to be back to his Bielsa best and is playing every game between now and January, then yes, but hardly going to happen so no bye bye

He's got to earn it. Needs to get an injury free run of games at some level and then make a difference with the squad. If he does that then why not.

I can't answer specifically yes or no as it's depends on what he achieves over the next few months.

I'd be pretty passed off if he went and made a deal in Jannuary behind our backs though after the wages he has taken the last two years.

At the risk of another WJ backlash (though albeit a friendly one), I think he is finished as a top level footballer. Been out far too long and will now keep breaking down with niggling injuries.

You could be right, however I've felt that he hasn't let himself down yet, admittedly with the little game time he's been granted so far. He slotted in seamlessly for me, & whilst he didn't set the heather alight, no-one was screaming for him to get hooked. Not bad for someone who's been out of football for 2 years, & 4 years out of the PL. Gives me some hope for him.

Now it just so happens that Forshaw has just turned 30, so we have to ask ourselves: 'who will take a chance on him?' - & I don't just mean Leeds. He surely won't get a top, long term contract, will he?, so might have to accept a one year contract, or even be reduced to accepting a pay-as-you-play contract. If I'm right, I would advocate being open & honest with him re. his options & tell him that he would get a 2 year contract max, if his performances for the rest of the season merited it. If they didn't, then it would be 'Sayonara, baby!'.

Bump...

A few games in now....

Thoughts?
Something Bielsa said last night about him being surprised that Forshaw has got back to the standard he was before his injury 2 years ago. In that case if you remember Bielsa said Forshaw could play in any CL team

Based upon that it sounds to me that Forshaw is going to get a new one

If Bielsa remains another season then Forshaw will no doubt get a new contract. It depends on what Forshaw is looking for, I wouldn’t be handing out a three year contract. It also depends on Phillips and Raphinha, we need some stability and it wouldn’t be good replacing three midfielders in the same season.

If he remains injury free I’d offer him two years with an option of a third and I’d look to offload Klich.

As Forshaw will be 31 next October I'd only be offering a 12 month extension on the same/similar terms, I'm assuming he's already received an uplift following our promotion. If he feels he needs a longer contract then good luck to the lad and I hope he finds another club where he'll be happy.

To be fair we should offer the extension in January then at least he'll have some security for next season. That's assuming he makes it to January without breaking down again of course.

Yeah klich looks spent at this level.

I would rather we sign someone who can shoot and score goald. Forshaw never scores and roberts too. Rodrigo is the same and james too.
