Didn't Fangio always demand preference. Didn't he once demand his teammate give him his car during the race because Fangio binned his or the car suffered a problem?
The story goes that Fangio had a car problem, Ferrari couldn't force Luigi Musso or Peter Collins to give up their cars as they were already ahead before Fangio's car gave up, Stirling Moss was also pressuring them to keep going or face losing the win. Luigi was asked to give his car, but refused to give his car up as it was the Italian GP and was in a shot for the win. Fangio believed all was lost and that his team mate Peter Collins would of been world champion, near the end Peter comes into the pits, gets out of the car and gives Fangio his car, sacrificing the win and WDC for Fangio to collect it in the end. Stirling Moss who won the race in the end still lost the WDC to Fangio. Peter Collins said to the papers Fangio was more deserving on winning the WDC than him and said he had plenty of time to win it himself, he died 2 years later and never did. The real scary thing is he would of been 24 years old when he would of won the WDC which would of stood until Alonso came around, he also would of been the first ever British WDC in history, a shame Moss is remembered but Peter Collins is forgotten. He gave it away because he felt like he didn't deserve to win it
