Makes ya wonder if old retired refs sit around , haven't a beer together , at times having a laugh over the worst calls they've made and the effects it had of the outcome . Needs to be a system that creates accountability to tighten up these massive blunders ! Replays in the stadium might get them suddenly focused .

This is one of the reasons why I would fully support some form of video refereeing during a game by the fourth official (might as well get them to earn their money). My preferred system would concentrate on 3 appeals for each team per game or each half on any issue involving a goal, or a sending off or a penalty. There would be a system of penalties for abuse of the system eg frivolous appeals to waste time sort of thing.

Some might cry on about the game being halted but ultimately I would much prefer to improve the chances of getting the right decision at the time which to me is much more important. In any event a lot of these decisions cause the game to come to a stop anyway because of players disputing the decision. Referees and linesmen do make mistakes and the players don't help and a lot of the time do the exact opposite of helping (some might call it cheating) and for me this would help the referee rather than undermine him.

Given the money involved at the top end of the game I honestly struggle to see why people still argue against using technology to get the right decisions more often.

I disagree. Are we going to go back through every sides good and bad decision then tally them up? Jeff Winter's website was simply his take on those decisions. He was of course qualified to comment but its not gospel by any stretch. Just taking the most obvious is comical IMO, what we are talking here is people wanting complete correctness. They have the same impact whether marginal or not.

Its fair enough wondering but to be brutally honest its like anything in life - you can be a passenger and chip on about the negatives or the reasons why not, or you can grow a set of balls and make it happen for yourself. We haven't done that and that is why we're in trouble.

I'm just not a fan of this victim syndrome, I think its indicative of a person, set of fans or club who just want to look for excuses. Sunderland have been like this for years to be honest. I think all its done had held them back. Its the same throughout life, for every person willing to blame bad luck you can name the exact number who overcome the same circumstances because of a different attitude.

This is sport, and the league table never lies. I think the three teams in the relegation zone have undoubtedly been the worst three sides to this point. When the season is over the worst three sides will go down and referees decisions will have only played a small part. There are so many other factors that go into every game. I mean look at Man U the other week when they were late to the game. Should the game be re-arranged due to unforeseen circumstances. Certainly their preparation for the game was impacted on and it wasn't their fault. No because plenty teams have been in that situ and still won. Now some will say they should have planned better but they have planned the same way every time since pussy was cat and its been fine.

We'll just have to agree to disagree.

I'm not looking for perfection but no reason why video evidence can't be used to improve the position given the amount of money at stake.

Also the league position never lies isn't something I subscribe to as it is virtually impossible for every decision to be correct and likewise the same in regard to claiming that every team in the league gets the same number of favourable/bad decisions during a course of one season and the same impact on points gained/goals scored/goals conceded. Ergo it is perfectly possible that the fourth worst team gets relegated instead of the third worst team due to those favourable/bad decisions. I'm not saying it's happening to us I'm just saying it is perfectly logical that the league position doesn't always reflect where a club should have been.

Essentially my point is that video evidence should be introduced into matches whilst those matches are being played. To me there is no logical or rational reason why it shouldn't.

Playing the victim fan for the moment are you able to answer my rhetorical second paragraph to my post number 200. I can think of 2 of those against us this season. I can't think of one of them for us this season. Colo v Sunderland is one and Aguerro the other night is two. Both changed significantly the course of each game. Obviously it's impossible to say what impact each decision had and whether it was for better or worse in the final outcome but both decisions put us in a significantly worse position after the decision than before it.

I do accept, believe it or not, that ultimately we are in the position we are in due mainly to our own failings eg bad buys, bad team selection, bad tactics and some players who have no heart or fight or brains or a combination thereof.

Pretty sure that Alberto Moreno had a perfectly good goal chalked off against us which would have made it 1-1 and could well have changed the course of that game on all known evidence about our fragility. We went on won 2-0. Had we not we'd be probably already down. Realistically in a season where a team is doing badly it is statistically easier to find game "changing" decisions against said team. I mean you only have 7 wins to pick from against 19 defeats. Hence the rhetorical question has very little context in isolation.

I'm not a fan of too much video evidence being used. Rugby has just as many grey areas or bad decisions or decisions that are made because of a particular referees preference in scrummaging for example. They just don't whinge about it or hold it up as a reason they lost a game. You have to adapt and overcome.

Balls crossing lines is no problem whatsoever but I think linesman decisions/red cards and so on should be left as they are, warts and all. People mistake rugby, tennis etc as being great examples. You are comparing apples with pears due to natural breaks in the game. I just think you only ever hear about this when a team is going down. If we were sitting in 8th nobody would be saying "We'd be 6th but for that **** of a ref". Its an unfortunate defence mechanism for the weak <laugh>

The idea that as long as there is enough ref blunders to go around , it's all fair ...it is not the way forward
There is no excuse for that blatant offside to be rewarded with a goal in such a precarious position and having to accept the decision based on past or future blatant errors

LOL I must be weak then as if I didn't win the Premier League due to a "wrong" decision on the last day of the season I would definitely be complaining....as would Ferguson, Wenger, et al.

No doubt we have been diddled this season, but karma is a bitch and by association to big Mike were all paying the price.

I'd say we've had a fair few major decisions go against us this season. More than go for us anyway. If it evens itself out over the course of a season we should have a few go our way in the last 4 games.

There is a difference between a bad decision against a team who are say 2 goals behind in a game , with no meaning in the table to a bad decision at a point when it means life or death in being relegated or winning the title or not .
No two bad decisions are created equal and have various intangibles , regarding importance .
