I appreciate that swamp. The problem is that he was being most "hard done by" in is post match interview and then the next day he came out with this "forfeit" rubbish. Is he really being upfront if he tells one story one day and a directly opposing story the next? And did AVB suggest that he forfeited the game against Liverpool?

the interview with AVB was more to do with how they need to pick up performances in general, league, league cup, champions league, chelsea are expected to win them all, blackburn arent.

i agree, 'forfeited' is a very disrespectful word to use against us, that totally undermines the effort that our players and manager put in, he made 5 changes, one being the keeper, so thats hardly forfeiting a match.. not very sporting in defeat, but hey, he's getting a hard time from the media and his own fans, as well as every team he visits so i'd find it hard to be happy and smiley in a post match interview..

I hear what you say swamp, and if you look at my original post, you'll see that prior to this, I was sympathetic to Kean's plight. However, finding funamentally oposing views from one day to the next, depending on who or how the question is being asked, is hardly a sign of being "upfront" and as cracker says, his behaviour was unprofessional at the very best. No question that the cup was not his priority, so why not just say that Cardiff were better than us on the night?
Anyway, water under the bridge now. I wonder who'll take the blame when the Swans complete his South Wales experience. <laugh>

I'm with clingo and crackerjack on this one <ok>

... and these boys have got every right to be pissed off. You can't deny we wouldn't be either in the same situation.

on the subject of other managers, I'll leave you with this thought:

How lucky is Steve Bruce?
He lost his job on last day of November knowing on the first day of December all department stores are looking for a fat twat with experience of wearing red & white!!

every cloud eh?

<ok>

You won't hear the word forfeit from AF in the morning, despite sending out a 2nd rate team (with I think 10 internationals mind you) he expects them to win and will no doubt be ripping them a new arsehole.

SB, some good posts on there <ok> (I skipped through a lot of in-game comments though to get to the meaty stuff :)).

Some listened on Radio Wales and the reports regarding Newport's game made me laugh :D

steve kean chose the wrong word in his interview. no football manager goes out wanting to lose a game, i just believe he meant that he was prioritising the swansea game as i would in his situation, not necessarily chucking this game away thats all <ok>

You're right there Swamp but it only goes to prove he's not up to Prem. standard. I can't think of any other Prem. manager that would use those words.

Maybe he should "Forfeit" his job.

Swamp, I doubt anybody thinks he actually set out to throw the game away. He's clearly a man under pressure and its times like these that separate the good manager from the...umm, not so good. I know I'm biased (and not seen him in a similar situation) but you look at MM's interviews and not once has he struggled for the right words, always maintains his dignity, professionalism and gives respect to the opposition where its due.
Kean, on this occasion, didn't do any of the above but as you say, the right choice of words would have saved him a lot of grief.

Personally, is it hasn't taken the shine off what was a great night at CCS and thankfully, Blackburn's problems are not ours to worry about <ok>

'My comments at the press conference were taken out of context,' he said.
'There is absolutely no way that we would ever consciously forfeit a game, quite the opposite.
'What I was trying to say was that by not winning we had forfeited an opportunity to take another step towards a Wembley final.
'If my explanation or wording was vague or unclear then I regret that.'

'I want to stress that both of the major knockout competitions are massively important to us, but the Premier League will always be our primary objective,' he added.
'I am a big fan of the Carling Cup and I refute in the strongest possible terms any suggestion we didn't treat the competition with due respect
'However, I make no excuses for recognising the importance of Saturday's game with Swansea and basing my decisions accordingly - as the manager I have to assess every situation on its merits.
'I made changes at Cardiff more out of necessity than choice.
'We had Steven Nzonzi suspended, Junior Hoilett had to return home with a virus and I simply could not risk the fitness of Chris Samba, Martin Olsson or Michel Salgado.
'All three had been out for several games with hamstring problems and the medical advice indicated that to play them on Tuesday would represent a major risk to their long-term fitness.
'Had any of them felt a reaction they could have been sidelined until the New Year.
'Given our situation in the Barclays Premier League and a massive home game looming at the weekend against Swansea, it was a risk I just couldn't take.
'I would like to make it perfectly clear that I used a selection process at Cardiff similar to that of other rounds of the Carling Cup, a type of rotation system - used by many managers - whereby some fringe players were given the opportunity to show what they could do.
'We fielded seven full internationals and two under-21 internationals and the starting line-up was one I believed to be more than capable of getting a positive result.'

read this.

on a lighter note

Swamp, I read that earlier. Hindsight springs to mind but lets leave it at that... not our problem <ok>
Like DJ says, lets forget him and be thankful we've got Malky <applause>

Wonderful words from Kean there, but this is his third different take on the same game. To me, it's just statement in an attempt to get him out of trouble - I don't think he's given any deep felt reaction to the game itself. When you get to this level of firefighting all the time, surely you have to realise that something is fundamentally wrong. I think deep down there is a good guy that's in way over his head. and while he tries to maintain a tone of self confidence and defiance, he's doing nobody any good, including ( and probably especially), himself.
I also think that this last offering is far too eloquent to have come from Kean himself.

Anyway, time for me to let go of this one now. Un-cling as it were.

More like a damage control speech , really , after the fact , He used the exact words he wanted to use from the get go & knew he spoke out of line right away methinks . Out my way his Indian name would be " Chief Many stories " . Not sure I've ever heard a manager use the word " Forfeit " referencing a watered down side , suspect I will never hear another manager say it again . He's been like a cornered rat with his fans of late & that's what drove him to say such a thing
