As Koeman said recently, one or two departures is inevitable and healthy for allowing fresh blood to come in. Sell high buy low is the philosophy I like.

I agree it is easier to relate to British players very quickly. Especially if they come through the academy. European players and wider take a little longer but for me Fonte is already a legend and Pelle, Mane and Tadic are potential legends in the making.

I love Pelle for his dramatics and his quiff.

Yeah, I agree. And I also agree that it is the best business model, and method of running a club.
But I can't help but feel like a little of the soul has left the club since we returned to the premier league. (Though it's no fault of the club. It's just the way football works)

I know what you mean but I really have to disagree. I feel instantly engaged with any player wearing our stripes, however fleetingly they do so. They're all true Saints, until they're not.

I think I would only start feeling that way if the club wasn't then reinvesting the money well/at all. It's not like we're the only club to sell to clubs above us. Newcastle and Villa are obvious examples in recent years. And they're also obvious examples of clubs who have failed to reinvest well/at all.

Whilst I'm seeing the Bertrand's and the Toby's and Forster's come through the door, I'm still totally in love with the club.

I think you'll find there is usually a higher turnover of players at clubs at our level and below in order to keep improving. Why change the personnel at a club that has just won the Premiership when all that it required is fine tuning.

Clubs at the top also have a turnover, but generally they keep players they want to keep (though not always). We tend to lose our best players.

I fell in love with Tadic with that back heel passed Lovren in his first game.
