Unnecessarily calling another poster a '****ing ******' is fairly wrong.

Can just see the Muppets having a vote next year as to whether to scrap relegation for the 12/13 season.
See how the vote would go, 3 clubs would be committing suicide, relegation in 11/12 with no hope of promotion back to the premier.

It's probably Blackburn, their owners have probably now realised that spending a few millions will not bring them Champions League football.

I'll admit, mindless "anti-foreigner" sentiments usually wind me up, I should however, practice what I used to preach and not resort to insults.

It was a ******ed thing to say though. In my defence.

On topic... wasn't Phil Gartside the man behind this last time it came up? Only with a two-tier PL?

He was behind the two tier PL idea, it did really well, it got one vote.

well that would make the game really boring, if teams end up bottom of the league, they should go down. No get out clauses

Agreed, it's what puts me off following Rugby League, or the Scottish Third Division.

    1. It wouldn't be a second division - it'd be at the head of a system of leagues; and the 'hermetically sealed' Premier League would most likely split, with the top clubs wanting a Euro Super League.

    2. You'll probably find the Allams have UK citizenship and passports.

    3. They are overpaid - Eny Fule No That. Sky and the top clubs have pretty near ruined the game.

    4. Fake fans? In the world proposed, Swansea wouldn't go up; nor would we. Dummy! Moreover, I'd guess the reference is to fans who are attached to (e.g.) Man U or Man. City - based in the south, or at least not in Manc. Haven't you been in a Hull pub with big screen, showing ManU v. Liverpool? It's not guys just wanting to watch a good match...it's FANS!

    5. Patently wrong. When (communist) Hungary beat England at Wembley, neither team was part of a business. So you can't say "As long as...". Moreover, there are vastly different levels of 'business' - McDonalds v. the corner shop.

    (P.S. **** off anyway)

    Can't argue with TWF.

We can all talk about how rubbish the Premier League is/was, but the motivation of the Premier League is pretty much the main thing that keep clubs going.

Also, it wouldn't be great for the entertainment value of the Premier League unless there was also a "big leveller" such as a wage cap (even then, there are massive issues which is a debate for another day). At the moment, a large degree of excitement comes from the relegation scrap, what entertainment value would come from QPR vs Blackburn without the threat of relegation? You might as well just have the Premier League being a league of 6-10 teams and throw the rest in the Football League.

It won't happen though, I can't really see it being beneficial for any party in the long run.

It's totally wrong and fly's in the face of traditions of English football. However listening to the guy being intervewed on th BBC website he seemed to support it and defend the idea. It was all about the foreign investors wanting to safeguard their investment; ie "what if they invested and then got relegated". It's the yanks that are pushing for this, they only want to invest in franchises; ie you can't lose.... it would be a cash cow....not a risk.....not exciting sport/chance.

We don't want franchises, not at any price.

Needs nipping in the bud, think all the fans need to protest in the strongest way.

Players are not overpaid. Very basic economic principals such as Supply and Demand explain that.

Ofcourse theyre overpaid youre telling me its okay for a footballer to get 100k a week when a soldier fighting in afghan gets nowhere near that and theyre risking their lifes whilst a football kicks a ball?

Supply and Demand fair comment though

The Myton league was the head of the system of leagues I played in as a youngster, still, we didn't get 80,000 people turning up every week for some reason.

I'll give you that, if only because I don't want to get into a "who's foreign and who's not" debate.

Overpaid compared to who? The only other people who sell out stadiums every week are rock stars, and I'd hazard a guess that Bono probably earns more than most PL footballers, so if anything they're underpaid.

We have a Swedish fan on here, is he fake? Or is it only fans of big clubs? TBH I don't really care who people support, if they support 'em then they're a fan.

So it was just a free for all and the fans were allowed in for free then? Or did they have to pay for tickets etc.?

There are vastly different levels of business, but that's kind of irrelevant?

Highly doubt it, it would possibly be the worst decision in footballing history.

Yes, because there are more people capable of being soldiers than there are being Premiership footballers.
