I don’t disagree he had to go when he left, but I am convinced there was a falling out between him and SL, SL wanted to take time to acclimatise first, cots wanted to use the momentum of promotion add a few top quality championship players and go for it. There was only going to be one winner. Cots left and SL brought in a manager who would toe the line. The rest is history.
I note the word as you do formal, sometimes during my working life I was involved with many negotiations during which many offers and counter offers were made, only when an agreement is reached is a formal offer made, the ones who"know better" must accept a manager makes an offer and a owner can formally reject it. All as I have copied and pasted up is articles printed at the time from local press, unlike the " Know betters" I don't claim unique gifts of information and knowledge I just show the press reports and people make their own judgements. I personally believe Cotts did have agreements in place and Lansdown refused them, then squandered his millions via Ashton and Johnson and we all know where that ended up.
R&W/Supcon. You are dealing in conjecture. The only fact Pearson has to deal with is a poor squad left having to play ageing pros and kids. And folk earning over a million quid not able to make the bench.
These debates will run and run - and a lot of the arguments revolve around 'ifs' 'buts' and 'maybes' - Could GJ have achieved promotion IF we had invested wisely in January 2008? - IF Cotts had been afforded more time, would we have survived in the Championship, or been relegated? - MAYBE Cotts was let down by SL and the board, after initially being promised funds? - BUT perhaps Cotts threw unrealistic bids about, in order to wind SL up? - MAYBE Cotts deliberately stuck to his losing formula, thus sabotaging our survival, to make a point to SL and ultimately got himself sacked? - Could LJ have achieved promotion IF we had invested wisely in the January of 2017? - IF Cotts is THAT good, why isn't he managing a Championship club or 'large' L1 outfit? All these are subjective and impossible to prove one way or another - but people stil have their (very strong) opinions. For me now, the most important question is: IF NP is given funding in January, will NP invest wisely and will we be able to start to see a Nigel Pearson' team forming, MAYBE seeing us climb away from the trapdoor?
Again, conjecture, as a number of these current players were in the team that was within touching distance of the play-offs when we went into COVID lockdown. You and the other LJ detractors only focus on the demise from that point, but never recognise that the players were good enough to be up there to begin with after almost 40 games of the season! Under NP they haven't even got in the top half, even with his new additions that weren't in 'the 65'. Why is that? Plus LJ was slammed for not using kids, and you and others commended NP earlier in the season for it, and now it's him being forced to play kids. Also, most of the ageing pro's in the current squad, King, James, Simpson etc. were all signed by NP.
at around this time a number of players wee being chased beside Gayle and Gray .. WE WERE NOT FLAVOUR OF THE MONTH! a number of others " on their managers /parents? advise stayed put"
one of the reasons is over the past few years more and more managers get a chance take it fail once and only a few get another job where the last one stopped [ lge ] In the meantime foriegn managers get a job so a surfeit of managers after the same 24 places!
The exact opposite, 4.5 healthy seasons in the championship without promotion opportunities, millions more spent than any previous City manager, 65 plus players signed, 2 places per season progress only , split fanbase, broken promises about 3 transfer windows and success in European football, invention of streaky football, do you want any more? length of grass, signing goalkeepers with eye problems, poor man management capability, the gizmo kid, king waffler, Mr tinkerman. No 'ifs' or 'buts' there, just my opinion.
Once again your hatred for a previous regime means your blind to what is being said. The statement was, If you think we should have achieved more given the points you made, that is a different statement/argument. but the FACTS are, that the above statement by 1For is true, whether you like it or not.
As usual your rose tinted specs are not working, my statement is as correct as the one you've highlighted, I stated it was the exact opposite, healthy 4.5 seasons without promotion opportunities. Frankly, I make the point but I don't care a bugger, that regime failed, is long gone and thank god.
As I said, conjecture. Impossible to form an educated opinion. Whatever, it won't change the current malaise we're in until Pearson is allowed 2 or 3 Championship players next month. Only then and when Williams stays fit will the fog clear. One way or the other.
The truth is that we will never know the real facts surrounding our club and it's dealings because that's just the way it is in real life. All these attempts to belittle various posters for their remarks is pointless as it becomes a personal issue rather than a well though out discussion designed to inform our public. Over many years I have believed that Bristol City F.C. is a club that lost it's direction due to some background problem that deters both managers and players alike from joining a disjointed entity. Any young player looking to forward their career would probably walk away from BS3 and those good ones that decided to give it a go have mostly since left our building. Regrettably we are still the same old club we were back 10/20 years ago and we are still saying the same things and asking the same tired questions. Until such time as we get on board the real road to success then I can virtually guarantee the same old menu will face us and so we can make the decision as to whether or not we can agree to follow the lost sheep or pop over to the MEM (lol).
i dont think the the G's were likely opportunities ... by feigning a almost signing for them.. gave them more clout with other clubs .. to honest neither done a lot since! We had chances of Dack/Bradshaw? etc just one of those moments in time ...
