Spot on. If you're going into a Division where you have the lowest budget, as a Club you surely have to go for a new manager with a good track record of getting the most out of average players on a tight budget. Wayne Rooney has none of those qualities. He has a dreadful track record in all respects. All he is, is a 'Hollywood' name. A dreadful choice. The Plymouth Board has thrown away even the slim chance they had of establishing themselves in the 2nd tier. We all knew that from day 1.
He did a good job as Derby County manager. Plymouth are positioned in the league table exactly where they should be, based on their budget. Unlike us.
Wayne Rooney fired by Plymouth A. Tarot card reading, Albatross-like soothsayer @lardiman lighting a large cigar as we speak …
I'm glad for the Plymouth fans. I know the odds are against them, but if they hire a decent manager there might still be time for them to climb out of the relegation zone.
I did not know this before I just saw it on SSN, but it has been suggested that Liam Rosenior was largely responsible for the decent time that Rooney had while he was Derby manager. Rosenior was his top coach, and assistant manager. I don't know how much truth there is in this theory, but it might explain why the Derby era for Rooney was better than what has followed.
Rooney has waived his right to a pay off from Plymouth today - said by their fans to be well in excess of £1m. The class of the man I can’t imagine many senior figures at CAFC doing the same in the circumstances.
I'm glad to hear that. Part of Plymouth's lunacy was to give him a three year contract. He doesn't need the money but you're correct - he could have taken it by rights. I assume his waiving that right was why they were able to part ways when they have. In an odd way, it's the best thing he could have done to potentially save Argyle from relegation. They're 4 points plus a dreadful GD from safety. I still believe though that a half-decent (as in competent footballing) gaffer could get them out of it.
I don't understand why everyone in the media is suddenly saying Man Utd are back. So they drew with Liverpool? Big deal.
I’ve not heard anyone in the media say United are back. Plenty, including the manager, have said that the team needs to replicate the Liverpool performance against future opponents, which is not the same thing. I watched the Liverpool v Man United…the best game I have seen this season IMO. Real toe to toe stuff.
I agree completely. Teams can play up to 'quality' opponents, we've done that ourselves a few times this season. That's a long way from getting bread-and-butter wins, as we have so often failed to do.
It’s probably more the fans are hoping they’re back- but I hope not , it’d be good to see them in the championship
And what's the matter with Ange? He was always so happy-go-lucky. Now he's having a fit every time Spurs do a 'Spurs'. Lighten up you big Dag. No-one cares that Spurs are crap. Looking forward to St. Totteringham's Day again this year. By Easter I expect.
