“Chelsea are set to bring an eighth goalkeeper “ This one for £17m last month one cost them £20.7m. God I hate what Chelsea has become. If this isn’t a sign that football is broken I don’t know what is…
My nephew who is a Chelsea season ticket holder hates what Chelsea have become especially after selling Conor Gallagher. They just buy promising youngsters from all over the World loan them out and then hopefully sell them for a profit or the occasional one makes it in their first team. He says they have no chance of getting anywhere near winning the Premiership.
Credit to Exeter City Somebody just said on SSN that today is their first game in a run not far off 500 (around ten seasons) where they do not have at least one academy graduate in their starting XI. They do have two on the bench though.
What a pity. Lincoln City have spoiled their famous 'Imp' badge. Must be the most meaningless and unnecessary logo tweak of all time. Unless it was the result of a competition that raised loads of money for charity I can't see the point of doing it.
Too many Star-struck suits and too few football people in the board rooms. Please God if NJ has to go, I hope we don't go anywhere near Shrek.
Preston sack their manager after the first game of the season. Crazy not to have either waited or have done it at end of last season
Even when he's getting results his teams are dreadful to watch. Everton fans must surely have run out of patience with him. He isn't the cause of all their problems for sure. But he isn't the answer either.
Erik Ten Hag says he's not Harry Potter He's not any good either. Big mistake by the new boys at Manyoo keeping him on. They're no better than they were last season. Time for Shrek to return!!
I'm loving the decline of Manchester United. Under Fergie they competed to be Champions every season. Now, after a string of dud managers their ultimate goal this season, and for the foreseeable future, is to finish 4th. And that is already looking impossible. Their ambition no longer exceeds that of teams like Villa, Spurs, or even Brighton. The only thing that scares opposition teams or fans about going to Old Trafford now is getting wet when the roof leaks. Their manager can get them to win half a dozen games to lift a Cup, as they treat every round like it's the Final. But he cannot motivate them to earn bread and butter wins to challenge in a 38 game season. And his indifference to being slaughtered by arch-enemies Liverpool is staggering. He wasn't furious. He was annoyed at having to answer dumb questions from journos. Slot has been at Liverpool for 3 games. Ten Hag has been at United for two years. Yet Liverpool have infinitely more identity and team ethos. Ten Hag will surely be fired before Christmas.
You could say exactly the same thing about almost all of the elite clubs in the PL. The only two clubs I sort of admire are Brentford & Brighton, who both have carefully worked out plans for PL survival on low budgets, which they have delivered brilliantly. Even Brighton have spent close to £200m this Summer, as their owner wants to break into the Top 6 this season.
Leicester City win their appeal against PSR violation charges from the Premier League. I listened to some of this on SSN yesterday, and I couldn't understand one word of it. If memory serves it was the behavior of Leicester City some years back that led to points deductions coming in for teams that go into administration. Administration is just a fancy way of avoiding paying your debts. Debts that are owed to real people and small businesses - not just the Tax man. As someone who has worked for small businesses all my life, I hate nothing more than customers who won't pay what they owe. The Premier League is incompetent. It's fair play rules are an unintelligible mess that anyone with savvy lawyers can drive a coach and horses through. Just watch Man City when their charges finally get heard (yeah, right). Football finances in the UK stink to high Heaven. But I have no faith that the new Government Regulator will get a grip on matters.
