I've just read that Gareth Southgate wants England to be the No.1 rated team in the FIFA rankings.

The rankings must be broken if it's possible to become World No.1 team without wining anything.
Besides which, the rankings are practically meaningless.

If England beat N. Macedonia they apparently move up to 3rd. Oh.

And NM should have had a clear cut penalty earlier.

The creeping conversion of English Football into a reality TV genre.
Every little Club and his dog wants their own series on Disney or Netflix.

I can understand why. Carlisle Utd have probably barely had a pot to p*ss in for most of their history.
But I see nothing good for football in Clubs of a similar kind (like Wrexham) selling their souls to showbiz.

Nice to see Shrek doing so well at Birmingham City <laugh>

The owners organised a open top bus parade a week ago because he won a game.
He's taken 4 points from a possible 21 since getting the job, and has a win ratio of 14% <doh>
City have soared from 6th to 16th place in the Championship :emoticon-0103-cool:
scoring 8 goals and conceding 16...

    This is a tricky one...

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-67508310

I don't think players should be suspended until they are charged with an offence.
While under Police investigation only they should be allowed to continue to play.

If all players being investigated were suspended, what would be to stop a conspiracy?
A few trumped up allegations against Erling Haaland (for example), could see him not play for months.
God knows we have enough interference with football already.
We don't want mischief-makers joining in.

Well, one team playing worse than us is
    :emoticon-0171-star: Wayne Rooney's Birmingham City :emoticon-0171-star:

Beaten again today, that's 1 win in 9 under Shrek.
Some say he needs the January window to buy half a dozen Hollywood names :emoticon-0103-cool:

Others point out that Birmingham's previous Gaffer had the Blues in the play-off places
with exactly the same players that Rooney has now <doh>

Would you trust the ginger thatched Scouse Granny grabber with your transfer window kitty?
These new owners must be barking mad.

This should not even be a news story.
It's shameful that it has to be in 2023

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/67705029

Anybody would think it was 1823.
Or 1971 - a year when the FA ban on women even playing professional football was still in force.
Doubtless this female referee will get heaps of misogynistic abuse on top of all the abuse any referee has to put up with.
Most of it online typed by keyboard cowards.

    Good luck to her.

Almost as shameful is that there is still apparently only one black referee in the top flight
(maybe in the whole of the league system? I'm not sure).
English Football needs to look long and hard at itself. It's track record on gender and race equality is poor.

It's a terrible business for the man, you wouldn't wish it on anybody. But there is evidently something very wrong with him.
Collapsed in May, collapsed again today.
I'm not sure his career can continue after this.

Also, I'm hearing a lot of stuff on SSN about how abandoning the match today was absolutely the right thing to do, as the players were in no state of mind to continue. Lockyer's health matters much more than football is the message.

That is a perfectly valid point.
But it it is true now, why was the play-off Final not abandoned in May when Lockyer collapsed and had to be taken to hospital?
Was his health not more important than the football on that day as well?
It seems not - with a multi-million pound place in the Premier League at stake.

I cannot abide the corrosive influence on morality that huge amounts of money has, in football as anywhere else.
When any player suffers a life-threatening medical event during any game is his health more important than football, or isn't it?
The only difference that I can see between today and the play-off Final is that there was no massive pot of cash directly riding on the result today.
