Well done the England women's team Our first International Trophy for 56 years. I'm not a fan of International football but this is a great achievement. It will do wonders for the women's game in this country. One issue is diversity though. I noticed this last season in Charlton's women's team as well. I think there were three non-white players in our squad but none of them were regular first-teamers. Many times we started with 11 white players. This isn't the case with our men's team. I think I might take a look at the squads of other women's Clubs this season, to discover whether a lack of ethnic diversity is a widespread problem.
Fantastic night - I thought after 90 minutes our best hope was penalties, as we looked knackered, but we fought our way back into it, and wow, when the goal went in..... Well done ladies, proud of what you have achieved, and loved the celebrations
Surely that’s down to wanting to play and ability of the players ? I don’t think it can be called a problem?
Even The Financial Times has The Lionesses on the front page. Must be the first time the FT and the Star lead on the same story.
When the ethnic mix of the Nation as a whole is not reflected in the National squad, there is a potential issue. There can be many reasons for this, sometimes cultural. Racism isn't necessarily involved. But I think it's worth looking at.
Christiano Ronaldo leads the table for receiving abusive tweets with 12,520. Harry MacGuire second with 8,954, while Marcus Rashford has a paltry 2557 in 3rd place. 2% of players receive 50% of abusive tweets, and Man U players are way out in front of other clubs.
I've heard of fans leaving early... https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/62408148 At Old Trafford its the players who leave early
Must admit I left the Valley early once last season when we were getting a tonking, I couldn't face the queues to get through the Blackwall Tunnel. But I wasn't substituted at half time
Crows force postponement by damaging pitch... https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/62713713 Not unlike a Daphne du Maurier short story
Parker got sacked because of a 9-0 thrashing, yet Southampton stood by their manager after they got thrashed at home by Leicester 9-0, surely even worse, and it's proved the right decision.
