Cheers for the heads up FLT, i'll check it out on ITV player later.
Alan Hudson was my first real footballing hero that I tried to model my game on as a schoolkid. I can remember him destroying West Germany in a game at Wembley when Bally was the captain and England won 2-0 in 1975. As a playmaking midfielder, he had the lot, skill, technique, composure, vision and a great range of passing.
I remember Frank W with very fond memories, especially against Pompey in the cup in '84, My mate had a shirt printed with the words "Frankie goes to Fratton" on it!.

The book 'The Mavericks - Football When Flair Wore Flares' was actually written by my course leader at university. <ok>

It was that book that inspired the ITV show!

It begs the question about most footballers today? They might have lots of technical skills but very little flair and imagination. There's football teams and then thankfully Barcelona!! There's playwrights and then there's Shakespeare!!!

Cheers. Less than 20 minutes to go. Will Matty make an appearance before the end, or was he just a budding great player yet..?

Not sure. I think Hoddle will take a chunk of it and maybe an intro or taster of Gazza and Matty before the next one. I am rattling my brain as to who else will be in it. Morley of Villa maybe? Charlie Nicholas.

Ps. I'm off to bed as I was on the early train today, so I'll be viewing it tomorrow!

Was talking about this again today with my university course leader - was telling us how much he enjoyed writing the book and helping with the TV show.

Was racking my brain for a Tottenham player, in Hoddle's era, who was a bit of a maverick, and I get stuck on Steve [he's a Scotsman]
Yes..! Steve Archibald. Bit like Frank McAvennie. Prolific scorer and wayward. Quite a few stories about him in WGS's autobiography.

I watched episode 2 today and they showed Gazza and that amazing display against Holland.

Who was that blonde cart horse that Gazza turned inside out in the 1990 World Cup game against the Netherlands <whistle>

The first team squad need to be asking our Ron if he had any idea which way Gazza was going :)
