See I knew about Landon Donovan thanks to Match magazine, but at that time he was at Leverkusen I think.

Meanwhile, my beloved Philadelphia are playing the New York bastards tonight. <laugh>

Ah yeah Landon Donovan too obviously, but he's far higher profile than your average MLS player.

This is going ok. It took my new striker 35 minutes to become the second highest scoring San Marino player in history. Also the first ever player to score twice in the same game. Qualifiers not going so well.

Started a game at the weekend as manager of Southampton and am surprising myself by how well we are doing. We are 2nd in the league (2 points behind West Ham) after 24 games. We have a League Cup semi-final v Watford to look forward to in my next match (having beaten Liverpool 3-0 at Anfield and Everton 2-1 at Goodison on the way!). I bought in Stephen Kelly, Craig Dawson, Lewis McGugan and a right winger from a Mexican side called Elias Hernandez. He was transfer listed and had flair of 18, passing of 16 and pace of 14, so I took a gamble for £600k and he's now absolute dynamite after a couple of months of settling in. New Years has just passed on the game which also saw the arrival of Michael Bostwick from Stevenage for £1m and Simon Church from Reading for £600k. Bostwick has been injured since joining so not yet been able to play him but put Church on the bench for his debut match (where else, away to Reading!) and threw him on for the last 15 mins and he bagged the first in a 2-0 win!

Tadanari Lee is the league's top scorer so far as Lambert has been out with injuries and poor form. Now Lee is injured so Rickie is the main man again but he can't score for toffee! He's got about 3 goals so far this season which is poor considering Hooiveld has 7 and Dawson has 6. I am playing Lambert as an attacking target man. Anyone got any tips for getting him to score?!

Rickie got about 18 for me as a deep lying forward. Also got 5 in his first 2 prem games. The thing about target men is they just don't get the ball if you play a fluid system.

I gave up with Lambert and indeed Sharp after about 10 games. I played Lee as a poacher and he got 35 goals in the season (and 18 in the subsequent Premier League season).

Good luck mate, you've certainly made some smart signings anyway. Bostwick especially, he will do you for the Prem easily <ok>

I must admit, Lee is getting lots of success as I play him as an attacking poacher with shorter passing style. When I play Rickie I change to a more direct passing style and give him the role of target man. It's not affecting our results, still seem to be winning and scoring plenty of goals, it's just he's not getting any and his match rating is consistently around 6.5-6.9. Very rarely goes above 7.

The team shape looks a little bit like:

    --------------------Davis------------------------
    -------------------------------------------------
    Kelly------Hooiveld---------Dawson-----------Fox
    -------------------------------------------------
    -------Cork-----McGugan-----Schneiderlin--------
    -------------------------------------------------
    Hernandez---------------------------------Lallana
    -------------------------------------------------
    ------------------Lambert-----------------------
