Is that not how the normal draft works? Worst record picks first?

Yes, but these Lotteries occur at random times over the course of the season.

You can also use draft picks in exchange for players. For example, I could sell one of my players to, say, Portland, in exchange for their first round draft pick. So if you ever find better clubs at the start of the draft picks, that'll be why. It's how LA Galaxy got first pick to enable them to sign Landon Donovan. They sold one of their players for someone's first pick a week before the draft.

Yep that happens in other sports. Do transfers (as in, involving transfer fees) happen in the MLS? Every other sport is trades (or when contracts expire)

Yes, every team gets an "allocation fund" which can be used to sign players from both inside and outside the MLS. It's handed out by the MLS rather than the board.

I don't know what it's like for other teams. I got $525k for Philly (I swapped to $ just for this MLS game :p).

Ahh I'll have to do that too. Enough money to sign Forecast though, perfect!! Thanks for all the information, I'll let you know if some crazy Yank thing pops up and confuses me. I can't go for a Chicago team or an Ohio team (even Columbus) because I'd feel too dirty... There's not a baseball team in Indy and I'm not gonna be a fan of White Sox or Cubs, so I chose Diamondbacks all the way over in Arizona. Might have to follow suit here... Dallas is far enough away, FC Dallas is a real possibility

Canada is to the US what Northern Ireland is to England - a pain in the arse that nobody wants.

    Hmmm <laugh>

Do ask, and I'll try and help. Like I said, it'll be second nature after season one.

OH, one more thing. Some clubs start with 2 DP slots, and some of the bigger clubs have 3. You can just buy the 3rd DP slot for 250k of your allocation fund <ok>

Galaxy and Red Bulls are probably the best. Outside of that I'm not so sure.

Thierry Henry is an enticing thought :p I assume sustained success is quite difficult?

I think so, it's worth looking at the league histories of the teams. It's just up and down and up and down <laugh>

:D Is it a league system over there? I really know nothing :p Every other sport has a sort of league system with loads of conferences, then a playoff series with all the best place finishers. Does it do that, or is it just, league winner wins?

It kinda resembles the NHL format. Not sure if there's an MLS version of the Stanley Cup though.

    First things first, no relegation.

There are two conferences - East and West. Top 3 from each conference qualify for the play-offs, then there are a couple of wildcards too, I think for 7th and 8th in the overall combined table. Each team plays each other twice in the regular season, then you have play-offs to determine the winner.
