If you do start one, it will be very daunting at first, but by the end of Season 1 it will be second nature to you.
I'm fine with the concept of drafts, don't worry Unless the MLS one is dramatically different from the NFL one it'll be piss.
I meant with regards to roster regulations, with the salary cap and the different contracts that are available
I'll try! Senior - Your bog standard contract. Most of your players will be on this. Designated Player - The most lucrative contract. MLS brought this in to allow the MLS to compete in the global transfer market, with the bonus of the salaries not contributing to the salary cap. The best players will usually be on this, players like Henry and Beckham. Senior Entry Level - No idea what this is if I'm honest Generation Adidas - Another contract that doesn't contribute to the salary cap. Players on this are young players who have been picked as the brightest talents. This, coupled with the fact their salary doesn't count towards the cap, makes these players extremely valuable. Academy Apprentice - I believe this is for players who have just joined the team from the "youth academy" as it were, like your normal youth intake. Another one I'm not sure of. Developmental - I think this is for players whose contracts are not owned by the MLS, as the MLS owns most of the players contracts as opposed to the clubs. I hope this makes some sort of sense. The rest is pretty easy to find and understand, like how many of each player you have have (e.g. 2 or 3 DPs, I can explain that too ), and you can only have 8 "international" players too. Comprende?
Okay that makes sense So how do I stick someone on a Generation Adidas contract? Or is that automatic for the best young players
The Generation Adidas contract is done by the game. But at the age of 23 I think, this contract expires and that's when you have to award them a Senior contract.
The players don't ask for much, usually about 2/3k a week on average, 6.25k a week is the maximum for a Senior contract. Only 2 (or 3) players on the DP contract will be on more than that, and that doesn't count towards the salary cap.
Ahh fair enough. Does it matter who gets DP? Like, can I bring in Tommy Forecast and stick him on DP? And does a DP count as one of the 8 international players?
No it doesn't matter. Yes you could put Tommy Forecast on a DP contract, but why would you and yes I think so, if they don't hold American nationality.
Sweet, I'll get cracking in a little bit then. Should be fun, mixing up the game a little bit Who to be... my two favourite (so, two of the few I know) MLS players are Dwayne De Rosario and Brek Shea, so DC United or FC Dallas maybe
I'm Philadelphia Union because I love their kit, and they have Bimbo on their shirt....they're also only in their second season in the game (2010 was their first MLS season), so I'd like to build them up. I incurred the wroth of the fans by selling Sebastien le Toux though.
They have Freddy Adu don't they? Sadly I have a thing against Philly sports teams... DC too, actually, so maybe not DC United. I might choose the one geographically closest to Indy, as long as it isn't Philly Columbus Crew or Chicago Fire... hmm... Columbus Crew have a cool badge...
They do indeed, he's been one of my best players Chicago or Columbus maybe? My US geography isn't so good One more thing. The MLS sometimes runs Weighted Lotteries for players who haven't been drafted to give them a club. The result of this lottery is weighted to give the team with the worst record over the previous 30 matches the most chance of getting the player. It is optional, but I go for them mostly because you can get some amazing kids that way.
