Well, I think I've solved this little problem. There's this Japanese island that has 457 people over the age of 100. It's supposedly the healthiest place on Earth. St Mary's needs to start providing rice, fish, pig ears, tofu, bitter gourd, sweet potato and a beverage called Awamori. Probably pretty cheap as well. Sorted. http://www.odditycentral.com/travel/japans-okinawa-island-the-healthiest-place-on-earth.html
I remember at the dell when they had a lad walking around behind the goal selling burgers - would of been late 80's early 90's.
Lol. Do people go to football to eat? Seems strange although I remember enjoying a lovely proper greasy pie and a hand pull pint of Thwaites on a cold Boxing day at Burnley a decade or so.............thinking about it was probably 17 years or so so I was the typical early tenty-something. lol Definitely better than the 'carpet burgers' and the 330ml carlsberg in a bottle that Lincoln were offering at the time. Seem to remember at that same time a similar greasy burger and a handpulled pint of Banks' at Main Road. They should return proper cask beer to the stadiums rather than worry about snack foods being healthier. Was great having a proppa pint at half time
Best food I've ever had at a football stadium? That's gotta be Old Trafford. I had a Toblerone. Incidentally, that's the only time I've ever eaten at a football stadium. I queued up for a hot dog once at a St Albans game, but gave up because it was taking ages.
That's my only gripe. They don't get a penny from me for food because I simply cannot get any during half time. I'd have to join the hordes heading down the aisles at 40 mins and I'm there to watch football. The speed of service is a disgrace - I can see a dozen ways they could speed it up (e.g. have a large number of teas and coffees prepared in the five mins before half time ready to hand out, have someone constantly just making teas/coffees while others serve, etc, etc) so I don't know why the club can't see the same thing. Vin
Wouldn't fancy tea made 5 min early, but there has to be ways to speed up service. Person on till shouldn't be so involved with getting food/beverages as they get in each others way. If the club want to make money, they should look into it. Personally, I help by being able to go for an hour and a half without sustenance. Am off to The Cowherd for a prematch meal, then do without until teatime...not difficult.
Hate to bring politics into it but this Government has already said that the likes of Godders and myself are a burden on Society, how would they cope with all of us living to be 100+? Being Saints supporters, it's a wonder we have lasted this long..............
Prawn sandwiches are pretty healthy, just as long as you go easy on the thousand-island dressing! Well you are in the Premier League....
I don't know about a burden on society but I am certainly a burden for the very lovely Mrs Godders who I have suspected for some time now of poisoning my food and drink. I think she has been implementing her own version of the Liverpool Care Pathway except I'm not terminally ill just a miserable old sod. Her thinking is therefore very much in line with the Governments ie "Lets kill the old buggers off. It'll save us a fortune!".
Food & refreshments of any kind should be banned from all grounds. If someone can't sort themselves out with food & drink for the hours & hours before & after a match and HAVE to seek it during the 90 minutes they are inside a football stadium... they deserve to be obese or shunned by us decent members of society.
I've been wondering how long it might be before someone suggests a sort of age cap, whereby you may only live to a certain age and then the government puts you down. It's funny how society depends on people dying, and how our improving health is actually becoming rather costly. I suspect I'll never reach a retirement age, as it'll keep increasing as I approach it.
Ah football food. What a topic. I must say, I think the selection of food at stadia is pretty poor. It's basically burgers and pies. I rarely buy food at maches, although I think the last tmie I bought a burger was when I went to Fratton Park in May of 2009 (the last time I saw Portsmouth win in person) and it was an evening game. I was coming from quite a distance so left before dinner and didn't get back till 11pm or something (after forking out shedloads for a taxi) so obviously needed something to eat. It wasn't bad, although it was bloody huge. It wasn't in Fratton Park itself but one of the vans outside. I wish there'd be more options though, like sandwiches. Everyone likes sandwiches, plus for afternoon matches, they'd be a more appropriate choice than a burger. Interestingly, when I went to the Ricoh Arena during the Olympics to see Japan Women v Sweden Women and Canada Women v South Africa Women, they served sandwiches there, but due to the cosmopolitan nature of the crowds at the Olympics, it isn't surprising that they had more options than usaal.
