Whilst this is a fabulous explanation, would you not also have to explain "throw" to one of the gentler sex first? Oops! That slipped out! :emoticon-0127-lipss

This thread was started as a serious point about how female friendly our football club is compared to others instead it has degenerated into a lot of sexist nonsense.

This needs to be remedied so I would like to start by banishing hotbovril to the Portsmouth page where he and Devon as the only posters can discuss footballing matters to their hearts content with nobody there to read what they write and leave the serious stuff to us.

I agree about the number of women at a game being very much a cultural thing and that in some parts of the country attitudes are such that women don't attend games.

I remember going to the Dell in a large family group for a Boxing Day game in the 1960's and I can recall my mother and my auntie both being particularly attracted to David Webb's thighs.

Maybe clubs with fanciable players tend to have more female supporters, or is that just too shallow?

Maybe the kind of female singers you prefer are related to how fanciable they are?! Or is that too shallow? :emoticon-0110-tongu

I did say "throw" Godders and not "throw in". Banishment to the Pompey board is a bit harsh! For what it's worth, Mrs Bovril has accompanied me to every match I've attended at SMS and loves it! (But she still can't throw for toffee and she's a PE teacher!).

I say the more the merrier, better than being more the gayer, but that, if I wasn't joshing would be regarded as being homophobic.

I think since the sixties there has been a general increase in the fairer sex joining the males on the terraces and maybe even more when the grounds went all seaters. They have proved over the years they can be just as passionate as their male counter part. Including on the odd occasion the exchanges with the away fans after a game!! Even as far back as the 50's there was a smattering of ladies down the dell usually in the west stand in the seating area that I recall. (My aunt being one of them) She supported Saints and was a season ticket holder right up till she passed on two years ago.
