Just seen a table in the Telegraph that shows CH is currently the 9th longest-serving manager in the current PL. If you add in the teams coming up next year only Malky has been in place longer. In addition Rodgers has only been at Liverpool 6 days longer than CH and Lambert has been at Villa 5 days longer. You know at one level the precarious nature of a football manager's career but when you see that only 6 (7 if you count Malky) managers have been in the job for over a year and, if media are to be believed, Jol and Pulis are under threat, it throws that into sharp relief.

FTF just read the report myself, i was pretty shocked how high up CH was. only wenger was long-serving, pulis, Jol, pardew, martinez and alladyce a decent stint and the rest a year or less if i remember correctly.

Yes I read this at lunchtime, absolute disgrace isn't it? I would imagine that come the start of the season CH could be higher than 9th. Where will it all end?
Nature of the beast I'm afraid, its not just football but society itself these days with the need for instant results and must have now gratification. In football the money is just to big and the owners brains just too small.
That said, should a club show great loyalty to its assets when those same assets would leave the club in a heart beat for the right offer?
There are right and wrong decisions made every time a manager is sacked and right and wrong times to do it.
However if you can do it when its least disruptive and give the new man the maximum ammount of time to ready and shape the team i.e. as soon as the preceeding season is finished then it can sometimes dependant on circumstances (i.e. a better man for the job having been identified) be the right move.
I am not going to state any such clubs who may wish to do this! (We have probably all had quite enough arguing in circles)

What staggers me is that one club thinks a manager is bad enough to be sacked and is taken on by another almost immediately who have just done a similar thing. Benitez is finishing Sunday and he may well have secured Chelsea 3rd place and a European trophy. Isn't that what Di Matteo got sacked for. It would serve Chelsea's owner and many of their fans right if the new manager, possibly Mourinho, mucked up completely.
Redruth - I totally agree. Nothing against mourinho because I think he will be good for the Premier league but the point you are making is spot on!
In Europe the general way of things seems to be for managers to only operate in fairly short bursts - 2 or 3 years typically. I personally don't see any issue with this. It's no different from any other line of work - people need a fresh challenge every so often. It was always held against Sven that he moved jobs too frequently, and I never really understood that perspective. I am always keeping an eye on the job market, it doesn't mean I'm about to leave my current position and it certainly doesn't mean I am not committed to my job, it just seems natural to me to keep an eye on the market.
I think Mancini is a perfect example. He has done 3 years or so, and has achieved a great deal in that time. However, given the money available to him and the level of expectation, he has under achieved this season. City are a clear 10 points behind United - a country mile. To me that is a pretty clear case of 'thanks Roberto, but time for you to take on a new challenge and time for us to get some new blood'.
