Taphouse would have been my choice if I was in that vicinity.

Just as long as you didn’t exceed your “allowance” of units...

I was OK, I was coming close to my allowance but, since my wife only imbibes soft drinks I was able to use hers, I also noted that one of my daughters had failed to use all of her allowance, thus enabling me to have a large brandy as a nightcap!

I like Minerva most in that area. A proper pub, good selection of drinks and food is nice too. Can’t complain

Agree, always go when I'm in Hull. I do find the food a bit ordinary though, perhaps I've eaten too often there.

Steak pie in Duke in Cott last night 5/10, very average indeed. I wondered why there was no-one in the place.

'Christine's' steak pie is a home made short crust. It's the best Iv'e had outside of the Mother-in-laws, which is unsurpassable. To be fair I love steak pie and can slum it with puff pastry. I'm hungry now and it's Pizza for tea. Meh

Took a Welsh (Swansea) group from work there for that pie (and beer of course)
Was expecting some ‘ah but it’s not Welsh lamb is it, isn’t it, boyo...’ from them
Actually got ‘that’s the best steak pie I’ve ever had...anywhere’

    It’s a good steak pie

Not one for pies but the wife is keen and much prefers short crust. I can imagine treating her in a Michelin starred restaurant or the Savoy and after perusing the menu asking the waiter what the pie of the day is.

If you like pies and out Hunmanby way there is a pub there which specialises in pies with some different fillings along with the usual ones.
