But the punishment needs to fit the crime.

Locking people up for not wearing a mask is ****ing insanity. It's utterly draconian.

You can't just send people down for going to a birthday party at a mate's house etc.

The government should be leaning on clubs and the PFA to get the footballers onside and make them advocates for behaviour befitting the time.

To be honest. The government shouldn't really have to even do that. The PFA and the clubs should be taking it on themselves to give something back to the fans that make them rich, in the form of advocacy. It's the very ****ing least they could do.

So do we send people to jail for jay walking? Littering? Being drunk in public?

Not every crime is equal. Yes what they're doing is wrong and they should be punished but it's a minor infraction. They've been dropped from the england squad as well as likely bollocking by both their managers. Job's a good'un.

Hopefully they learn. But they won't be the last stupid footballers to do something stupid. That's for sure.

Gotta say, the "boys will be boys" attitude most people seem to be taking towards these incidents is a bit annoying. It was my mate's 31st at the weekend, but he has a wife and kids so only me and one other mate went round to stay below the 6. Pisses me off these footballers think the rules don't apply to them.

Similarly, I'm a single lad but during the lockdown I managed to refrain from attempting to shag every girl in the local area. All they were asked to do was "just have a **** instead for a couple weeks". Not exactly difficult, is it?

I think my outlook comes from being jaded and dejected.

I've been locked down since March with a three week break in the middle which coincided with winter.

My career suffered straight away and is barely hobbling along. My marriage actually strengthened to begin with but is now showing pretty serious cracks with over exposure and stress.

It is different in England and perhaps I'm not seeing it through that lens. Maybe I'm just living vicariously through them. Ha!

Sorry but I’ve found the youngsters around us have been much better than the older generation. I’m actually at the tip in pity me and have been back and forth all day. Big signs everywhere “one person on gangway” yet you get people on your gangway. All mid to late 50s. No social distancing. All because they can’t be arsed to wait their turn. Sane in a large number of shops.
