**** me Dutch... Are you me? Every single one, I'd'a posted. Where you at every school disco I ever attended btw? The Essex boy is seriously underrated.
I'm viewing the definition of "childhood/youth" as the interface between living at home with parents 100% of the time/getting to live away from home devoid of parental presence and the freedom to drink and smoke. Memories are made of this. Plus the holidaying young ladies from all over Yorkshire - and a few stragglers from Scotland, who didn't end up at Butlins in Filey or Skeggy ! That was working @ Brown's amusements on the dodgems in Brid in the summer of '64. A few lads from Driffield were also working there, one of whom had brought his vast collection of Elvis singles & albums and a turntable with him. We managed to hear a lot of Elvis that summer. In addition, the cafe attached to the amusements arcade had a juke box which was quite extensive in it's "recent hits" catalogue - The Kinks hit "single "You've Really Got Me" . So - these three stick in my mind the most: Elvis I had obviously heard a few years earlier on Radio Luxembourg. If I don't fall asleep, this could be a long night !!
No idea if it's true, but someone claims this was the inspiration for Abba's Waterloo. EDIT: Apparently Abba cite it themselves. https://www.sundaypost.com/in10/health/eurovision-stars-abba-wowed-the-world-40-years-ago/
First record I ever bought - despite not have a record player at home. Strange that I emigrated to Canada 15 years later and married a lass from his home town ! Edit: A little better repro...
