Looking at the damage to the centre of the 45 in the first track, it appears whoever loaded the video/audio up onto youtube had their record player pretty damn close to their bed (at the time of max excitement ). "Play it again Sam" come to mind !
Very true - the source of so much of the Brit music revolution throughout the 60's either came from US records brought back by Merchant Navy or Royal Navy lads, or a bit later when the pirate radio stations (e.g. Radio Caroline) got their "researchers" to go over the pond. I've no doubt mentioned before (boring !) that in my case one of my best friends at school in the late '50s was the son of one of my dad's WW2 pals when they were together in the Merch. My old man retired from the Navy after the war, but his pal stayed at sea & brought back so much vinyl from the U.S. & Canada that blew us away. Rerecorded/covered by so many Brit groups not long after of course. My old man was a radio operator on the boats, so it was easy for me to record the stuff on his (primitive) reel-to-reel. I've still got some of those old acetate tapes I brought with me to Canada. Happy days. PS. Hollies was the first time I heard that song too.
Couldn't find the clip from 1977 of them on Magpie with Jenny Smith and Mick Robertson. Within a year they were on OGWT.
