Some one asked Arlene Smith, lead singer of The Chantels, what she thought of Janis Joplin’s cover of her song Maybe. “Cover? I didn’t realise it was the same song.” she replied. One of my favourite Janis songs but you can see what she meant.
Peter Green was a big admirer of Duster Bennett who wrote it. Once saw him at a pub in Leeds with a disco in the basement, blues on one floor and folk music on another. He did a one man act with a bass drum, harmonica and a Gibson Les Paul which I read later was given to him by Peter Green who had backed him on his first album. Ver good he was.
