i'd like the old school stuff bought back - building up the ground, choosing your own sponsors etc....

Think there should be more emphasis and detail when you get offered players from agents too.

Anyone else back in the Prem yet? For me, Morrison, Waggy and Solly are still knocking about in my second Prem season

Still first season in the championship as haven't played for a couple days- that said, waggy and Morrison have attracted bids from lower prem teams so assumed they must get better.

You wasn't wrong about him- BWP and Hayes stopped scoring so bought Grithiffs in on loan and signed Tulio de Melo on a free - Grif has scored 3 hat-tricks in 12 games. Just gutted it was a 3month loan now.. doubt he'll come back.

    Hey guys,

Thought I would chip in to this thread as I've been a massive FM fan since I was trying to find ways to avoid doing homework (I started on Champ man 2 so I figure I've been playing the game (in its various forms) for almost 15 years!). I've been watching this thread and waiting avidly to get my hands on enough cash to buy a copy, which I finally managed over the weekend!

Over the last few years I've avoided managing CAFC as clearing out the squad has often left me feeling disappointed before I'd even started playing the game, but this year with our newly assembled bunch I figured it's about time I returned to the Valley (even though that means CP is currently unemployed). My season is now 9 league games old (so I'm not as far as some of you!) and I'm joint top of League 1 with 19 points (6W 1D 2D), I must have gone to the Kevin Keegan school of management though as I've barely kept a clean sheet but managed to bang in 24 league goals all ready! The highlight of my season so far was the first round of the Carling cup - usually a game I would send the reserves out for and not give a hoot about, I was drawn away to that disgusting mob from New Cross so decided for the sake of the fans to send out a good side! The end result was an absolute drubbing (2-5) and pure ecstasy from the fans!

Usually when I play the game my dealings in the transfer market make Harry Redknapp look like a frugal individual, with something bordering on drug addiction if I don't sign a player a week during the off season (Loans or permanent - as long as I get to have a press conference and declare that its for the good of the team I don't mind)

This year (And its a credit to the squad CP assembled) I managed with only 4 signings (all on loan, and yes 4 is reserved!) just to bolster my squad in some key areas, I bought in Amos (Man U), Lichaj (Villa), Watt (Arsenal) and R. Morisson (Man U). However with Kermit and Hayes only managing 1 goal in 16 combined appearances I cracked on the eve of the transfer deadline (i started the deal at 18:00 hours) and spent 75% of my transfer budget (150k and a large chunk of my wage bill)) on Tamas Priskin, Hoping he would ably support BWP (11 goals in 12 games), so far he has 3 from 4 so its looking like an inspired deal (knowing my luck he'll finish the season with 6 from 35!).

Anyway I hope you're all enjoying the game as much as I am, Loving the new team/training reports - lots more info on offer and I think the ability to change the emotion level of your responses is brilliant (I took great pleasure in telling a reporter that I don't like Gary Megson - Assertively!) and the 3D game engine is even better this year! I'll keep you posted with how I progress (Mostly as my mates down the pub are tired of hearing about it already!) and Look forward to hearing how your games are going.

    All the best
    South Coast

Nice one south coast! Loved reading an in depth report.

I've now finished the second season, expected mid table but ended up in a two horse race with Swansea for the title, popping them in the penultimate game. My squad to end the season was:

    Zaluska(free)
    Solly/cousins - klein(60k, now worth 2m) - loovens - de laet(free & now worth 3m)
    Diba(free)/wagstaff - Alonso - frimpong(loan) - some Uzbekistan player who's name I can't remember
    BWP/tulio melo(free) - gritthis(free)

I now have 22m to spend or the prem, but a pathetic 150k wage bill- so having bids accepted for good players who want 30-40k a week, and I can offer 15k. Signed some young centre back from spurs for 6.5m, and just offered sigurdsson terms, but man utd have approached me. No idea what to do, so turned the game off and will go back to it <laugh>.

Good job super 2 promotions in 2 years (that's one hell of a benchmark!)! at the moment my team looks like this

    Amos(Loan)
Wiggins - Taylor - Morrison - Lichaj (Loan)
Watt (Loan) - Alonso - Hollands - Wagstaff
    BWP - Priskin

I'm looking to treat Solly as a development player this year (playing mostly cup games and a few league games) hoping he will be championship class next year.
I'll be looking to bring a new CB in in January but will need to remove some deadwood from the wage bill first (still have Doc, Francis and Euell who I don't think I need).

Super will you be sticking with a 4-4-2 in the Prem or look to a more solid defensive formation?

Also what do you guys do re training? I tend to scour the internet for pre-made strategies so that I don't have to make them!

    Though i'd join in :)

won league 1 in first season getting 98 points. Walsall closely followed me with 95 points and Rochdale beat sheffield wednesday in playoffs (so realistic)
I'm currently 13th in the championship after 25 games.
Only decent cup run has been quarter finals of league cup in second season where i lost to United at home.

    Current team
    Hamer
    Wiggins McCarthy Morrison Clyne
    Dyer Alonso Mellis(loan) Mayor
    Harewood Novak

Sorry for the palace players guys they went down and clyne and McCarthy where worth every penny!
Marlon Harewood scored 33 goals in 44 games in league 1 and currently has 12 in 25 in the championship.
Looking to bring through youth players such as poyet, harriot and cousins this year and also a random generated player with premier league potential.

Belvedere - I looked at Harewood (as he was on the TL) but I decided he was a bit old and went for Priskin instead (who's only 24 even though he seems to have been around for ever), I'll forgive you the Palace players (on this occasion!) but I'm surprised you still have Hamer in goal, I didn't fancy him half way through my first pre-season and decided to look elsewhere. Good job on the Signings list at the end of my season I'll get a print screen.

South Coast - Harewood is worth every pennys even though hes old hes 4 and a half star rating in the championship and he's just scored his 50th goal in an addicks shirt! Yeah I agree with you about Hamer will need to bring in a new keeper and the beginning of the next season as his ability doesn't match my ambition.

Acworth- Are you for real? what makes you think them players are good enough for the prem let alone a champions league side?!
