I take no pleasure in saying it AWAYINBC but the standard of play and our players over the last few years is as bad as I've ever know if not the worst. We have had poor individual players before, which team hasn't, but never in my time have we had so few to enthuse about. I don't agree that on paper, where football is never played anyway, our squad is anywhere good enough. They lack experience to a large degree and are not quality. I don't care who the manager is, a great number would struggle to make much out of them. It is only 3 games but it the fact they haven't hit the ground running in the league once more and pre-season was laughable. All the signs were there except the league hadn't actually kicked off so it did leave the remnants of some optimism. That flame has almost well and truly gone out. As I said it gives me no pleasure to have to put it like this but I cannot ignore what my eyes told me against Aldershot.
Aldershot have lost two home games since easily beating Argyle on the opening day of the season..........hope starts to fade when you assess such results.
No they didn't plym. That is easily beat us. They were poor but not as poor as our defending and not as poor as we were upfront but they didn't pee all over us. The match was about 50/50 which is not a recommendation of the standard. The Ref made it a comfortable 2 - 0 result with his penalty award but as we never much looked like scoring it would still have been a loss anyway so it matters little.I have seen good Argyle teams lose to inferior opposition previously because on the day we couldn't put the ball in the net. I have seen plenty of teams batter the opposition relentlessly for most of a match only to lose. It happens but it isn't always the best team that wins or the worst one that loses. Fact is we were not very good on the day albeit we matched them not being very good on the day as well except the scoring bit. If we played well and lost I could forgive them that. We battered Birmingham in the Championship and lost 0 - 1 but the side got an ovation at the end. This though wasn't that kind of loss.
