If we don't win the playoffs then next season will certainly be interesting and will be alot easier to judge the players and manager. Looking forward to it personally.
Seems to be a common theme. Would love to see the goal stats as we've only scored once in a lot of our matches this season.
Hopefully with a proper preseason behind us well be stronger next season, whichever league we are in.
Me too, I want to see us play the Jack Ross way that he had St Mirren playing, we have not seen it so far but Leopards do not change their spots and if he gets the time he will do it. I thought it would take us two seasons to get promoted from this division considering the state we were in, but if we can get the ball rolling we could take the Championship by storm and be in the Premiership with back to back promotions, wont that be something worth waiting for. OaU.
Momentum is huge in football and although on the face of this result is no big deal...we weren't getting automatic promotion. But now, we go into the playoffs with no real form to speak of. Looks like we are going to play the team with the real momentum..Charlton. Reminds me of the time we played Crystal Palace in the playoffs in 2004. They came into the game with real form..we didn't.
Yep I think Charlton have been beaten once in their last 11 games and that includes wins against Luton and Portsmouth. It's gonna be hard
Hmm I guess I am not a good supporter as I am feeling pissed off with Sunderland atm I also have not heard if my automatic season ticket renewal has happened.. tbh not bothered
Too many games in April with a squad which were carrying too many injuries to important players ie Watmore, Grigg and McGeady to name but three. Not sure what's happened to Leadbitter, have his legs gone? Playing O9 out of position to cover for Matthews, another injury was interesting to a point but not ideal. We've come up short for a variety of reasons, but as others have said our start point compared to the two promoted clubs who had settled squads hasn't helped. Charlton need congratulating as their squad was in a worse state than ours, but they have had a similar season as ours although theyir late run of form has come at the right time for them. Can we win the playoffs ? Not sure, it's a lottery and current form doesn't guarantee success so we've as much chance as the other three teams involved. As for next season, if we're still in this division and we get a good pre season and get players fit, add a decent CH and combative midfielder, I've every confidence we can win this league with a bit to spare. Time will tell.
Its frustrating that the moment that the club finally dare you to think positively (when automatic promotion was entirely in our hands) they blow it and again the fans just seem to be let down by a mixture of fate and general Sunderlandness.
Most, if not all, teams in League 1 are ****e with potless owners. Thats where we are now and its the most enjoyment I have getting out of supporting Sunderland for years.
...... love your description. It covers many a question about all aspects of us over the years. You should have it included in the Oxford Dictionery !!
If all 40K of supporters at the Portsmouth game had chucked a slice of bread in the air about 39.5K would have ended up butter side down.
