Well done Tarique, and well played the lads. It sounds from 'live update' match reports as if we dominated most of the game and deserved the win. It is essential that we don't give up on automatic promotion this season. 20 points after 11 games leaves second place just about within touching distance.
Good luck to all of you who slapped all the way to Fleetwood, it was after all an effort well worth while.
Well done to all the fans and to the team and Manager Karl Robinson, not gobshite or Gobbo. Excellent hat trick from Fosu and a good display from Nabby Sarr. Konsa also played well at right back.
Been waiting for the pre season Naby Sarr to clock in. Sounds like he had a stormer along side Fosu. All round good saturday and nice to get an unexpected win.
A very valuable win, especially with the enforced break coming up. After our recent form it's a relief to be back in the play-off places. The possibility of playing Palace next season is still alive.
Credit to Karl Robinson for this win, and credit to his players for overcoming the challenge of Fleetwood Town on their own turf. Considering the long journey involved and concerns about injuries, this was a very decent away win. Naby Sarr apparently stepped up well, and Tarique Fosu did the team proud. A great reward for the travelling fans, and just what we needed to keep up our spirits over the next fortnight. After a disappointing defeat against Wigan and then three more poor results, passing this test - and restoring the hope that Charlton are better than a mid-table side who've had an easy start - was critically important. Had we been defeated yesterday Charlton would have slipped to 10th place, and even more damage would have been done to the faith (already fragile for many fans I think) in our manager. One win does not invalidate all of our concerns over weaknesses in our squad or our tactics this season. After taking 15 points from our first six games, gaining only another 5 from a possible 15 thereafter is still a marked drop in form. Over the last six matches Charlton are 14th in the League One form table. But it is good (and not before time) to see that our team can still play well and overcome set-backs to secure a decent result. Tougher tests are still to come, including a mid-week home match against Peterborough and games against several other top 10 opponents. But for now at least the dream of promotion is still alive.
I think the telling thing, no matter how much KR divides the opinions of the fans, that the players are 100% backing him still. The frustration of the fans will simmer all season unless we pull clear with a rival in the automatic spots (unlikely) as there is a huge “what if” that hangs over us currently. What if we got a small % of that “significant investment” from the Lookman money, so we could have built a squad instead of a side. Another debate for another day. Well done to the team, and especially Fosu on his perfect hat trick.
This is why Robinson divides the fans though- Friday: “ we have a very, very small squad” Sat: “ I am confident the owner will back me if we are in the play offs in January”
"There will be jam tomorrow" in other words, probably conditional on getting a good fee for Konsa. One of the most frustrating things in the games I've seen has been Magennis being isolated, midfielders not getting into the box. It appears from Fosu's hat-trick that this has been addressed.
I did the journey when in League Two, on a coach, never again! Seven hours on a coach is just a killer, if i ever do the journey again it will be in a car. I've also done Rochdale too, but lessons learned and car taken with an overnight stay in a hotel. Never done Blackpool, was meant too but cancelled at the last minute for personal reasons. It was funny seeing 'Royston' picture view of Fleetwood and the narrow street, I remember our coach turning down pass a similar street and a film crew was down there well dodgy i know. I can't remember his name, it was the bald headed guy who does a lot of club reviews and covers the BBC EFL Football results on a Saturday. He was covering Fleetwood in one of his club reviews that day, although it wasn't directly linked to our game, just coincidence.
Yes, that's the guy Agree bit of numpty, had no interest in interviewing a coach load of supporters that had spent seven hours on a coach for a League Two game, against the very club that he was reviewing for TV. He tries to present himself as a voice for the lower league clubs is even quoted as saying; "I love the game at the lower levels. There's more access, more closeness to it, you don't have to go through 100 other people before you can speak to the person you want. You can go to a lower league ground, knock on the manager's door and if he's not busy he'll see you. You see all the Premiership players arriving in what are virtual stagecoaches, dripping in diamonds, trailing their escorts. There's an aloofness about the game at that level that I'm not really comfortable with." Well he didn't seem interested in talking to anyone when our lower league team arrived, bit up himself imho.
I wasn’t necessarily defending him - I’m not fully sold on him. He needs to take a page out of KM’s book and realise that sometimes saying nothing is better than the crap that leaves his mouth.
