Bin Suroor's Al Mureib ran 2nd on his debut at Newmarket today behind his same owners' better fancied Al Hilalee. Improved nicely 3f out and probably hit the front at the distance before tiring a little. At 20-1 he obviously wasn't fancied much.
A son of a Dubawi, his dam by Dalakhani won a small race in France and traces back to an unraced full-sister (Al Jazirah) to Rafha, who won the Prix de Diane. Rafha is the dam of those top sires Invincible Spirit and Kodiac. So a good racing and stallion family. Al Mureib has a nice mix of speed and stamina elements.
I think he'll strip a lot fitter next time out and I can see him being a useful staying 2yo and an even better 10f to 12f 3yo. One to look out for (he'll be a short-price favourite in his next run) he could go on to much better things for Bin Surror and Godolphin.
