he was generally ok but must learn from this. he is all arms and its not a part of the modern game at all. i saw 3 other silly pushes form him i nthe second half that the ref could have picked on.
frankly the rope given to rafael gave flanagan a lot of leeway to survive it but the kid did ok.
Is he better than cissohko... he's not a gangly donkey but in fairness he is just not that good still. sorry but he's not. IT was ok, solid mostly but he could have been down the tunnel had utd a bit of pace to trouble him with.

He's a bloody quick learner as well. BR had obviously told him to get close to Mata and don't let him turn when he gets it to feet which is what he did. He knew he wouldn't best him for pace with a long ball over the top.
Biggest compliment I can give is that Moyes swapped his wingers because he had Mata in his pocket.
He's getting better and better going forward as well. Confidence the has now is really showing when he starts taking players on!

If and buts. Had they played pace against him he wouldn't have got so tight leaving big gaps behind. The guy was solid today and has hardly put a foot wrong since that Arsenal game he played as a wing back.
He's far superior in this team to Cissokho and had been the most consistent full back all season. Always get a 7/10 from him.
you are right about that he did play high as they had little pace but he is a guy to dive in and when you dive in you get punished... had utd launched some pace down that side in any sort of effort to get back in the game with him on a yellow we would be worried.

Flanagan is better than any other FB we have bar Enrique. Considering Jose's injury record, I think that puts Jon at number one!

But is that any different to any other full back? Once he was booked he calmed down. Might have wanted to leave a marker on his man early while he could then reserve himself once hd was booked.
I'm surprised we didn't attack Rafael with Suarez more in second half.
He played a fine line between agression in THIS fixture and his job. It's always a risk but he is one of the reasons we were so good today.

A couple of my mates where worried about him being sent off too. I wasn't too concerned although I could understand the view. I think Gerrard, Agger and co kept him in check TBH. He seemed to cool off a bit after the booking.
All of a sudden Flanagan and Sterling who used to be lightweight, are suddenly very strong in challenges.

Flanno was sailing close to the wind today, imo. The comments might have been different if he'd been sent off and it had cost us.
He's young, and he has great potential, and he's a far better proposition than Cissokho.
It's perhaps not the best comparison, but I remember a young Steven Gerrard having the same level of commitment, and the same degree of rashness.
He just needs to learn to curb his enthusiasm a bit, or rather to channel it a bit better.

I'm with MITO on this. Nothing amazing and he's easily beaten by anyone with pace. Local lad who goes in strong so he will always be supported. Better on the ball than Cissokho but not better defensively.
Flanno will be a useful, reliable player to have as back up but we definitely need two new first team full backs on both flanks.

What a crock of ****. You expect far too much MITO. He was up against Jizzinface most of the first half and made him look like a snail. The fact that he got booked fairly early and still kept his head is credit to him not a reason to have a sly pop. The kid's the best young full back I've seen at Anfield since Rob Jones. High praise indeed.
If you can remember from the being liverpool series, early on it showed how Flanno was staying after and working on his fitness, technique, getting information with coaches. Hendo was also the same. Not a coincidence that you work hard you get the rewards.
