Savage 1st 6 games...good luck, you will need it! TBH, Villa is your best bet at getting a point, Wigan providing they keep Martinez are a tough nut to crack...just ask Newcastle, Arsenal, Man Utd, Liverpool who were beaten in the Great Escape Wigan's last 11 games (DDW WLW WLW WW = 7 Wins, 2 Draws, 2 Losses (23/33 points...2.1 pts/game)...don't underestimate this team.
We won't understimate anyone the last two years have taught us ther is no such thing as an easy game. Rather have these games early. It will be a real indicator of how far we have come/ need to improve.
Where are you lot? At least we're actually in the big time! Daunting first fixture though, but should be alright with a great run-in end of the season!
Daunting first fixture though, ___________________________ Indeed, the cherries are going to run riot!
Hopefully players in those teams are still nursing a bit of a Euro hangover and haven't built up their match fitness fully so won't be playing at their best. These teams are harder to stop once they have built momentum in my opinion. We wanted to be playing against these teams and don't have to long to pit our wits against the best. If we can pick up points from here then we will be cooking on gas for the next few. COYR's!!!!
Come on Saints. Good start in lots of ways, it will be a good bench mark thats for sure, and the players are certainly going to be up for it. I think we have the creativity to cause teams problems, but I am worried about the defence. At ther moment.
We've beaten big clubs before and have had decent cup games against PL teams recently (Blackpool, ManU), so no reason we can't get something out of the first few games. At the very worst, we've got them out of the way.
One of the few PL grounds I've been to...had a coorporate invite for that. So blue on the inside, it looks like a swimming pool. Saints lost 2.0 or 2.1...not sure which...guess we'd settle for that this time. Swansea lost 6.0 last season on opening day!!
Swansea lost 6.0 last season on opening day!! ----------------------------------------------- The new Man-city often start hot, but Nige knows what it takes.
Quite likely to have 0 points on the board in 3 games :/ only real chance of points are wigan, Haha we must have one of the hardest starts
Hi Guys - just wanted to give you a City perspective. Think it will be a good hard game, we took a while trying to break a very good Swansea City team down at Home the first game of last season (its was 4 -0 not 6-0!!). From what i've seen of your team (albeit on Sky) you are a good passing side with some good young players, think you will give us a good game. All the best for the season and hope you get the results needed over the course to stay up as the Premier needs more Southampton's and less Portsmouths if you know what I mean!!
I think we have to be confident going into the Wigan game... they were horrendous until a run of form at the end of last year, hopefully they don't carry it on!
Dunno about you lot, but I'm not too bothered what happens away from home. As Mark Hughes said about QPR last season, It'll be our home form that decides our fate. I see no reason why we can't be undefeated at St Mary's come Christmas. Surely we're all expecting to beat Man Utd on the 1st of September, given our history where they're concerned? It'll be our chance to show our intentions to the world, and make up for the drubbing we'll probably get from their neighbours on the first day of the season.
