We've got Manchester City (h) and Chelsea (a) first up. It could either be brilliant or a disastrous start to the season. https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...9-manchester-city-start-title-defence-arsenal
thats... a tough start. A very tough start. Seriously, how did that happen? Unfortunately I think Emery's style / tactics / etc will take time to set in, so we probably will still be a work in progress during the first game. give me a 0-0!
Can't get tougher than City first up but i guess we're at home and Chelsea will be tough but presumably have a new manager as well.
Unless Dick sorts out our defenders and midfielders then looking at nil points after first 2 games. Hoping for the best and would take 2 points from the first 2 games
That's certainly not true. First couple of games are always bit of an unknown quantity. Chelsea have struggled against us even last Season when we were dire. We already have enough forward power to get results against anyone. But yeah in order to have a good Season - we need defensive improvement and more creativity from midfield.
City have won 9 & drawn 1 from the last 10 opening day fixtures (2010 0-0 at white hart lane being the draw)
I’m sure the purchase of a 52 yr old defender and the world class Xhaka signing a new contract have sent shudders around the Etihad
Interestingly enough a team of Manchester City based players in Jesus, Fernandinho and others just got schooled by the soon to be Arsenal defense consistenting of past-it Lichsteiner and positionally-blind Xhaka
Yeah I was thinking the same thing actually. I guess it all depends how quickly Emery can implement his style/tactics on the squad.
