My friend Dr. Alec Gill OBE is an authority on Hull's Fishing industry. What he doesn't know isn't worth knowing. The History centre as loads of interesting material.
I wrote a poem called “ Hitchcock and the case of the murderous clown “ read it out to a group of poets, one being Alec’s wife. She absolutely loved it, gave me some really good advice, nice lady.

I know Audrey Dunne, Alec's wife, very well. Great lady and excellent poet.

I might ask her to proof read mine, I’m writing a novel and was going to employ a proof reader.
Good editors are not cheap.
check out 'writers and artists year book' for contacts . If you have not already done so. Your local library should have the 2020 copy. It's about £25 to £30 buy new.
A friend in Lincoln edits my manuscripts, but she's busy with her university work right now. Shame as I could have given her your details.

I have a retired english professor that helps me with the set up but she has really only wrote history type books and mine is fiction. I normally only write poetry but as this has dialogue it’s a bit of a challenge.

My dad came out the Royal Navy in 1962 and instead of following many of his contemparies into the police force he decided to go into fish filleting. He stayed in that life well beyond retirement age .. bloody hard graft .. hands in freezing cold water dragging fish out to fillet and for a pittance, all to put food on the table for us. The fish trade then and still is a bloody hard life .. bobbers, filleters, trawlermen all deserved so much more. I doff my cap to anyone concerned in that industry.

If you want someone to read your MS . I'd be happy to take a look and let you have some feedback and Mark any obvious grammar errors etc.
If you want to pm me with your email, please do so.
What is the genre?
How many words?
No of Pages and font size.
I would need a hard physical copy. Double spaced. 12 point Times Roman font.
Do you have a time frame?
I write crime stories under the pen name Neal Hardin.
All my stuff is on Amazon

Cap doffed, it really was a tough life back then but I think factory ships and automation has made the life a little easier these days in some quarters. Have a look at the videos on this site, https://ukfisheries.net/kirkella-trawler, it's a bit different now, but still not a life for the faint-hearted!

Thank you for the offer DF most of what you put is a foreign language to me lol
At the moment I’m working out how to start, I have 3/4 ideas one of which has not been done before to my knowledge but I could be wrong. I have a form of dyslexia, I mostly spell phonetically but know when a word has an incorrect spelling if you know what I mean. I have the total outline of the story, start, middle and end. Also each character including their names and history etc. Where I fall down is putting the dialogue in where a conversation is happening. It’s like climbing Mount Everest without oxygen lol.

Surprised nobody has commented on the loss of UK access to Norwegian fishing grounds announced yesterday. What now for the Kirkella
I am a hessleroader born and bred, livid with what has happened but keeping my powder dry until an opportune moment.

Yes I read about that, I don't know what will happen to it now. I'm assuming negotiations will carry on and we keep our fingers crossed?

Okay . Not a problem. Let me know when you've got 10k words together . In my experience writing is very subjective. One man's F Scott Fitzgerald, is another mans Ernest Hemingway.
I tend to use PPS. Plot. Get that right. Pace. Keep it pacey and dont waffle. Structure. Ensuring the structure is right.
Write dialogue as people talk in normal circumstances. Good luck.
