on holiday in N Wales in July at the chippy in Conwy i asked for scraps (it kinda rolled off the tongue ) she looked at me for a seconds and said "sprouts ???" .
After a few laughs i explained what scraps were , to which she went to the cooked fish in the cabinets and picked off lumps of batter with her tongs , bloody barmy !!!!!!

Considering I live in Birmingham, one of the most land locked areas in the country, I have been very lucky to have 4 really, ****-hot chippies within 10 mins of my front door.
    Who'd have thunked it?

It's shaped into a 'pattie' shape......and, whether or not it's 'horrible' is, surely, a matter of personal taste?

Tbh I always thought a pattie was just a potato and onion deep fried with batter cake, not sure what all this talk of haddock ones or roe is, surely they're just fish cakes? Although they generally contain more potato than fish, they're still fish cakes.

We get scraps round here too, just not the patties and chip spice obviously.

Peas...mushy or otherwise make me want to throw up just thinking of them.

Cod roe is the eggs of a cod. Which are worm infested, and eat seal ****. The cod that is. It's a poor mans caviar, which is every bit as gross actually. Mushy peas are very importatant,to try to say otherwise is preposterous.

they should not be any trace of fish in a Patty.
    Its unique to Hull.
potato, dried herbs (usually sage ), S&P, batter, deep fry, done.............

Sorry KK but I can't take anyone serious who is clearly Codist. Pea's are horrible, pointless and disgusting. They are the green version of kidney beans. Awful. The only way they can be made worse, is by mushing them up.

I once worked in food technology at m&s and the developer I worked with wanted to launch a cod and mushy pea fish cake. The development got vetoed by one of the technical directors said to me that mush peas were "filthy northern fayre" and would not be on the shelves of the greatest shopkeeper in England! We had to launch the product with processed petit pois.... Says it all really. It was on the shelf for a month before they were pulled.

You eat cod in preference to haddock and you think there's onion in a pattie?

Have you ever actually been to Hull?

No of course I haven't. I just pretend to be from Hull. Obvious really. I'm a plastic, glory hunting happy clapper. You are of course, right. As normal.

(In case it wasn't obvious, I'm not rising to your crap anymore, but I'm sure even with this knowledge handed to you on a plate, with peas and haddock, you'll still carry on trying to get a rise, bless ya.)

Refried beans,Happy. That's what you want. They're basicly mushy kidney beans. Beautiful with fajitas.

Jumbo haddock, large chips, large mushy peas and a large battered sausage, all topped with salt, vinegar and tomato ketchup. If hungry, this should be accompanied by a side-order of six slices of bread.
