Why are we scratching around waiting for Villa to say Bent can leave for nowt while Sunderland sign Altidore for £6million?! I know he was crap last time he played in English football but he was great for AZ last season. Depressing.

 

Hardly depressing? More like it throws more caution on the real quality in Holland, therefore adds further question marks over Bony. It's a tough market when people like jozy and Dwight gayle are worth in excess of £6m.

Certainly depressing. Some players take a while to come good. Might be so in this case. Either way almost ever other club is strengthening around us and not always spending bucketloads to do so. We're watching affordable striking options go elsewhere while we sit static like we're satisfied with having Ameobi as our only recognised first team striker other than Cisse.

He MIGHT be good? Do you know where he finished in the Eredivisie scoring charts last season? Behind Graziano Pelle and Alfred Finnbogason (and Bony of course). Now it may be these players are fantastic, but I doubt it - Pelle couldn't do jack in Italy for years/. Competent, sure, but not next level stuff. I'd just treat the league with a pinch of salt and I'd give the benefit of the doubt to someone who's watching these players week in, week out.


Besides which, I struggle to see who is really strengthening? I don't want to sound like a club employee, but you have to give credence to the fact we will have a fit squad to pick from and 5 players who will be all the better for it come the start of the season. No-one else has this, they all have to hope it works - we know we have really solid options, even in our young left back who was surprisingly good. If we add two or three (I do accept this has to happen, but there's two MONTHS to go) then we'll be considerably stronger than most around us. Honestly, there's only one player who has moved to the 'competition' that I would have liked - Lovren. But even then that's £8.5m on either a 4th choice center back, or someone who makes MYM our 4th choice.

We need someone considerable up front. If we can supplement that with a decent replacement for Ameobi and a decent replacement for Williamson, then that'll do. Keep the faith - we may not have them all lining up vs Man City, but it might be ok on Sept 1st. And even if it's not - please bear with me - I have maintained for a while that we play the Jan window best of all and we may have to wait until then to bring the players in, that might be our cycle of deals. Unfortunately for you and I, they aren't going to TELL you that because we don't want the World to blatantly know that's what we do.

By the end of May 2014, we will have a significant striker, a replacement for Ameobi and a decent young CB in the ranks. If we get to the Summer and Ideye Brown, Kevin Gameiro, Gervinho, etc., have all moved to 'rival' clubs for pittance, then there's an issue. But until then it's just a case of wait and see - that said, there's just not enough to get so disheartened about....yet!

Damn it, I saw somebody walking around in town today covered in bandages, I thought he must have been involved in a terrible accident but it could have been JK.

 

To be fair that would be a great signing as oppo defenders wouldn't have a clue where he is.

 

They'd just have to watch where the ball was moving on what appeared it's own accord and they'd be able to suss out where he was.

 

We need a CB, a winger and two strikers. If Cabaye goes, we will need another creative midfielder.

If we don't get these players we are facing a whirlwind of **** for next season. I'm sick of people thinking our squad at the moment will do alright next season beause it won't. We need reinforcements so badly.

Those wondering about Cabaye, this is what is probably happening right now. Leonardo or whoever is calling up and asking 'Is Cabaye for sale?' and our lot respond with 'Not right now Leo, call back on the last day of the transfer window and we may do business.'
