    What was yours?

Middlesbrough away in the league cup for me, 1996 Shearer scored first but we lost 3-1.

I think my first home game was a 0-1 loss to Man Utd the season after, Cole scored.

The thing about that game is i had to sit with the man utd fans as my dad got the tickets through a Man U fan he knew who was pals with some of their players.

I was sat behind David Beckham's mam and dad and they kept turning round to see if i was alright because i was crying about the score.

4-0 at home to Grimsby early 1980s.
I think Keegan and Varadi scored 2 each. Yet Varadi still got abuse from the home fans.

Vs Coventry 1974. 5-1 to the lads. Saw Supermac score in the last minutes and ran onto the pitch with all the other little 'uns. Class!!

1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday in November 1980. Bobby Shinton scored.

Remember thinking John Trewick was their best player which was a sad reflection of the team that year. Waddle was just starting then and was the only player who could beat a man but couldn't cross a ball. He sliced most of them into the Gallowgate end. He was a sort of 80's bandage-less St Maximin.

First one I remember is Luton Town in 1978. We won 1-0. That was when I started going on my own as a lad.

The very first game I went to at St James was to see Blyth Spartans play Wrexham in the FA Cup earlier that same year - my one and only time in the old Leazes stand.

Home v Wolves on a rainy Wednesday night in 1970. 4-1 win and I was hooked. No idea who scored, think I spent most of the game taking in the noise and atmosphere. Few days later was at home 1-1 v Liverpool. Mighty Wyn scored in the second minute.

I went to a few in the mid-to-late 90s but couldn't say exactly which was my first. 2-1 against Croatia Zagreb (1996 and may have been my first) and 6-1 against Tottenham in the FA cup (1999) stand out though.

Needed to dip into the nufc.com archives to find out the exact date for this one:

    11th April 1990

    Newcastle 2 West Brom 1

John Anderson and Mick Quinn scored for us, Don Goodman got a late one back for them. The season we finished 3rd until Jim Smith and went out of the plays offs to Sunderland. Dark days.

9th February 2003. Drew against Arsenal 1-1. Robert got sent off and there were choruses of "send off Arsenal, always cheating" bellowing across the ground <laugh>. I was 15, made friends with some locals and got rat arsed around the town. Brilliant!

Good thinking. Just double checked mine.

    It was 2nd April 1983.

Scorers were actually Varadi x2, Keegan and McDonald. I could have sworn Keegan scored 2, but clearly my memory is going like Trev's.

1974 ffs, against Norwich. First away game was Wolves 1982-83 season. Fans were scrapping on the pitch at the end ffs.
