Not a bad one to start with that and some real signs that we were coming out of the big slump/sleep. Rumour has it that there was actually circa 18k in BP that day, but the official attendance was around 14-15k like you say.
My first game was in 1957, I think it was against Rochdale but cant swear on that. I would have to go into the attic and look it up.
Isn't Chris Simpkin still in prison something to do with a brothel in Bradford?? Always liked him as a player though.
Hey beyond, that was my first game too! First game of the season and like you say we won one nil, fairly nice sunny day, I remember like it was yesterday!
stood in the well with my mate from Oldfleet, we were 11 n got the football special from Greatfield, bit of a non-descript season, feel like I just missed out thinking of the previous two seasons. Did Simmo score in the brothel?
I just remembered, my first ever football match I went to was the England U21's against Italy U21's at the KC. Can't remember the score though EDIT: It wasn't the Italians. I'll try and remember who it was
First game I went to by myself was City 3-1 Doncaster in the Third Division (our promotion winning season 2003/04). Jason Price scored that day (perhaps twice).
It was the Netherlands. I went to that too, Glen Johnson captained England and Van Persie captained the Dutch. We won 3-2 with Darren Bent scoring a late winner.
I was wrong with it being the England U21's. It was the Football League vs. The Italian League back in 2006. The starting 11 was: Lee Camp Wes Morgan Sam Tillen Simon Francis Simon Walton Chris Eagles John Welsh (C) Tom Soares Ashley Young Leroy Lita Billy Paynter Bench: Scott Flinders Greg Halford Scott Wiseman Luke Chambers Izale McLeod Dexter Blackstock Peter Taylor was the manager and Dexter Blackstock scored the only goal
