First choice goalkeeper?

But then he kicked a water bottle into the crowd and (excuse the pun) got himself in hot water. Club obviously investigated but people just made a big old fuss about it. Add into the fact his poor physical shape and an absolute clanger against West Ham, and he hasn't won many fans over here yet.

Personally got nothing against him and if he's fighting fit then I'd be happy for him to play.

Hardly have said it was "an absolute clanger against west ham". He could have done better but I've seen worse and last two games there has been worse by the guy in goal, gazza. Was it not concluded he hadn't kicked bottle into crowd but at hoardings after being abused by his supposed own fans. if club would least play him in under 21 games it help with his fitness and he looks a lot better than he did in some years past.

Give boruc a run in team and his ability will stand out a mile away. No he isn't going to be perfect but he is better keeper out the other two. And I am sure gazza will be one day but not ATM and not if you want to stay in epl

And I don't seem to be only one who seems to think the fans problem is the bad press in his past. Cause game they choose to abuse him he hadn't put a foot wrong
 
If the entire st Mary's faithful watched him play for Celtic/fiorentina/Poland you are correct psycocandy they wouldn't be so quick to dismiss him
 
Boruc or Gazza only two to choose from, Davis is basically gone.
 
I suspect that Gazza's bad game today was a direct result of the Swansea error. Everyone keeps saying he has had two bad games, I totally disagree, the error aside he was good against Swansea. He made a nice save at the near post in the first half, and I simply don't agree with the poster above that distribution doesn't matter in this league - it's crucial, especially with the way we play. His confidence on the ball and passing is a key asset, keeping possession is critical. It's actually horribly ironic that an uncharacteristic lack of composure with a back-pass cost us two points.

But he did not bounce back from his mistake today, far from it. I wasn't at the game but from the commentary I have heard and the highlights I have seen it sounds like he was wobbly throughout. I think there is definitely a chance he is going to have a nightmare next week.

Yes we could bring Boruc in but it sounds like he's a bit of a liability himself. Besides, we can't keep changing the keeper all the time, doesn't make things easy for the defence.

On balance I think I would risk it and stick with Gazza, but it's definitely no an easy one. Glad it's not my decision!

Letting a 40 yard lofted free kick bounce a few yards in front of you and into the net without even moving? Absolute clanger... Simple as that. Gazza has made similar errors, but a lot more excusable for a 20 year old than a 32 year old who's main strength was supposed to be experience at the top level.

He had conceded two goal and was a part of one of the worst first-half performances in the history of the club's time in the Premier League, not really by his own doing, but nonetheless, enough for a few idiots to give him a hard time, that's always going to happen at football matches. He's an experienced professional sportsman and should be able to rise above it, rather than responding and then kicking a bottle in the direction of (not necessarily at) the crowd. Personally, storm in a teacup for me, he was stupid to act the way he did but I couldn't give much of a toss about that incident, but it's not hard to see why it may not have endeared him to his fans, teammates and management.

As I said before, I personally have no issue with him, if Nigel decides to play him in goal next game then I won't question it, but he certainly hasn't helped his cause and it doesn't surprise me some people have taken up against him.

If they have taken up against him for that they definitely are soft in England. That was mild for mr boruc

And there is no suggestion there is any issues with hm and his teammates or management.

Re the free-kick Boruc conceded, those happen quite regularly and I wouldn't call it a clanger. Puncheon hit the post with one against QPR and their keeper was nowhere near it. Keeper simply can't go for the ball if there's a runner trying to head it, because if they make contact it's a virtual open goal.
 
Can't see it happening, even if it's a six-month deal. I believe we signed Boruc as a long-term no. 1 for this club, and I don't think anything's changed that. He wasn't even disciplined following the investigation so it seems the club don't view the incident to be as serious as some fans were making out, and hopefully he can put it behind him. I think Friedel and Boruc are of a similar standard anyway. While Friedel is a more consistent performer, Boruc on his day can be one of the best shot stoppers in the world, although (as seen against West Ham) occasionally also prone to error. Boruc is nine years Friedel's junior though and has plenty of experience at the highest European and International level, so i'd definitely rather have him.
Interesting rumour though. Given it's the Daily Fail, i'm sure there's some sinister ulterior motive behind it.

Yeah I referred to it as a 'clanger' in an earlier post which in retrospect was unfair. I think it is an error though. It's a really awkward situation for 'keepers which seems to occur alot at this level due to the quality of delivery. It's a split second decision as to whether to shift your weight towards the near post and possibly make a great save, or to follow the projected flight of the ball all the way. To exonerate oneself from blame a goalkeeper has to go for the latter every time, as a goal from a flick wouldn't be his fault, but whoever was supposed to be marking the player. But if a ball travels 40 yards and go straight in, you have to be disappointed as a goalkeeper. I agree PTF, certainly not a clanger though.
 
Davis was poor and Gazza probably worse in terms of actual goalkeeping, Boruc will play for the rest of the season unless he gets injured. Perhaps he won't be quite as passionate as the backups but as long as he wants to keep the ball out of the net he will do a much better job of it than the other options.

It's interesting to note that our major weakness this season of goalkeeper was Adkin's position and you would think he would make the best decision. Davis deserved a chance which was fair enough however I feel that Adkins dropped Gazza at the wrong time and should have let him play until he made a mistake, perhaps he wouldn't have. Anyway Gazza had an appalling game and will surely be replaced by Boruc.
 
The one Boruc let fly straight in wasn't a keeper error. Anyone blaming the keeper there doesn't have a clue about goalkeeping. If he covers it's path it's an open goal for the attacker with any contact made. This is coming from someone wanting to stick with Gazzaniga.

That being said it's a scenario a more mobile and match fit keeper might have been able to keep out. Boruc's physical attributes didn't allow him to keep it out in which case I wouldn't call it an error at all. An athletic and mobile keeper who is springy on his feet like Gazzaniga might well have kept it out

I know, but it'll be extended, bar a monumental **** up on his part. He's only 32. I imagine we saw how out of shape he is, and realised that he's a gamble, but it's an extra incentive for him to get fit more quickly and earn that extension. But he'll be in the first team within a month. We wouldn't have brought him in otherwise, what with having two 'keepers battling for the spot as it is.

Anyone not blaming him doesn't have a clue about set-pieces. I'm a centre back at semi-pro level. If someone makes contact with the ball it's quite clearly the marker's error, especially in the man-marking format that Saints use. If a keeper chooses to gamble on a flick, it touches no-one, and goes in from 40 yards, then he has to take the blame unfortunately. It's similar to when a 'keeper gets beaten on his side from a direct free-kick from gambling on it going over the wall. You have to do your job and trust your teammates to do theirs.
 
He can get fit and his fitness isn't as bad as it was few years ago so it should take less time for him to be in better shape. He never will be stick thin. He is a huge guy built like a tank but he was brought in for a reason and it wasn't to spend season not playing IMO
 
Maybe I saw it differently but I saw it as Boruc coming in for this season but being unlikely to be here next for one of any of a few reasons.
