What kind of a points tally would be acceptable from our first 6 games? Being ultra optimistic 12-13, being realistic 9-10 or being Spurs 5-6 !!

Let's target 85 points for the season so that we can win the league. We should get at least half the points from games against the other likely members of the top six (because we have to be better than them to win the league) say 17 out of 30. That leaves 68 from the other 28 matches. So against the other top 5, five wins, two draws, three losses. Against the rest 21 wins, five draws, two losses.

Map this on to our first six fixtures and I reckon 13 points would be the form of champions. 10 or 11 would keep us on target for top four.

I'm always optimistic and I can't see why this is not possible: we could have done it last year with a bit more consistency against thee bottom teams and a bit more luck against the top ones. But margins in this league are very small - if we perform a little worse than last year we will only just make top half

As long as its not 2 points from the first 8 (a phrase that could well come back to haunt Harry) we shouldn't worry.

Realistically, first six, 10-11 points would be a good start, anything mor would be fantastic, less than 10 would be relegation form.

We have 5 of last season's top 7 in our first 7 games so it's not going to be easy. 10 points from the first 6 would be impressive, I think.

I think you are all making a mistake by predicting the points. Suppose Wolves and Liverpool are bottom three when we meet then we'd expect 6 points IF we are playing well? Suppose City have a bad start by losing their opening matches and we win then we'd expect again 3 points? But if Wolves start well and we don't then 3 points for us would be a huge bonus if we beat them. There are too many scenarios to answer this question with any accuracy well before the season has started. I applaud your courage for doing it though.

Well Schteffen I'm eagerly awaiting the start of the season. I meant to post that this thread is a bit of fun which it is but I'm going to be boring and just wait and see. If Liverpool start off as badly next season as last then 3 points are in the bag. We should do our normal over Wolves and Everton so there is 9 points. Wigan we should beat so there's 12. I'd be happy with 13. There I've changed my mind and been bold. We could return to our normal form against City who we were unlucky not to beat in our opening match last season. But I would not want to be runaway leaders early on as they rarely last the pace as Chelsea showed last season. I'd be happy to be within touching distance of the top half way through the campaign. Let's just get strikers and we'll be ok.

Yup,I'm sick of LM too,if he stays then great he can help us to double figures in the first 6 games. Off out on the pop lads so catch you later.
