We’ve got strong first team that I honestly believe can get us into the playoffs, but what the recent injury’s have highlighted is against the top teams we don’t have the quality on the bench to cope, and with the size of our club and budget in this league how has this happened? In a couple of post match interviews, CW has said there is lots of healthy competition for places, so bookings/injury’s are not an issue, I don’t agree… Duberry commands the defence, wins 90% of all challenges, and gives 100% every match. Wilders preferred replacement is Whing! First off I have to say I’m not questioning his heart or work rate but his pace has gone and because of this it doesn’t matter if he gives 200% every game, he is second to every ball and giving away pointless fouls every match. The defence can’t move forward because they're coving a weak link in the team. I’m not the biggest fan of Worley but basics have to be an ability to track and keep pace with an attacking run at least he can do this unlike Whing. Potter, his pace and ability to run at the opposition is his biggest asset as it helps to pin the opposition defence back and create space for us to play, the current cover is Lewis Guy! Why sell Green and Deering if all our pace is coming from a single player and we have no second option (I’m excluding Hall as he’s on loan), Clist is a creative midfielder but seems to of lost all favour with Wilder? I’m hoping Chapman, Cradock, Tolkin are fit soon but we seem to be scrapping the barrel for quality on the bench. Strikers: if Hall returns and Beano is injured we’re stuffed! In January we have to either secure Hall until the end of the season or buy proven quality upfront. Not out of form striker, not a striker at the end of his career! Well that turned into a rant but I’d be interested to know if you think the same or just a dip in form…
I agree with most of that Funk. Our best XI is definitely one of the best in the division but with injuries and suspensions we're mid-table at best. I thought we were awful from back to front on Saturday but for me team selection was the start of our problems. Surely our best centre back pairing is Wright and Duberry and if one of them is missing Harry Worley is the obvious replacement, so why do we play a second rate full back in Andy Whing out of position at centre back? Harry Worley isn't the best player in the world but is a natural centre back who played all last season alongside Wright in defence - surely its a no brainer to play him with Wright? Andy Whing was not the reason we lost though, he put the effort in which is more than can be said for some of the other players - Lewis Guy in particular. In fact I just don't understand why Lewis Guy is in the side, he was poor when we had him on loan before and he was even worse on Saturday. What sort of message does it send to the rest of the squad that a poor forward like Guy can come straight back in to the side? It was around this time last season that Wilder lost the plot but eventually got it sorted before we ended the season in good form but by then it was too late On another note, I thought Cheltenham were a very good side but got incredibly lucky with the goals they scored. They have some very good players, far too good for Cheltenham so come January I expect most of them to go and finish outside the playoffs What the hell was going on with the ref Saturday, worst ref I have EVER seen!!
