Finishing Below Tottenham

Nope. Don't think so. If we don't make the CL, we'll lose some players and some money. We don't need the money, and any player who jumps ship after one year out can **** off as far as I am concerned.

Finishing below Spurs on the other hand would mean at least a year of misery. No thank you very much.

Praise the lord. I have waited a long time for you to post something like this that I can support and agree with 100%. I hope it isn't the last <ok>

I would rather be in the CL if it means sharing the honours with Spurs. Participation in the CL would mean that we would be more attractive to players we would like to have join us not to mention the £25m or so that would go to sourcing them and paying their salaries but then again not too long ago didn't our CEO attempt to suggest that we didn't need the money being in the CL would bring? In any event, the trend of this discussion fostered by the moderators has the appearance of a personal attack on a member to me. Then again, what else would one expect of the stewardship of this forum?

Stop whining Robin - we're entitled to our opinion too - and I happen to think Jayram's assertion is a ludicrous one.

anyway everybody is entitled to their 5 minutes of fame - even the Spuds.

Flash in the pan springs to mind. Don't like it but won't beat myself up over it.

Such a prize response in turning the tables on the other person and no less than I expected of you Piskie. You would do well in the commons. I was making an observation based on your need to continually express your opinion. Like a pack dog with it's fangs in a catch you seem to not be able to let go of a member whose views are not in accordance with yours and with whom you have been engaging in long-running debates. The place of a moderator is to manage, not get caught up in a situation. You redefine the role. As said earlier, I'm not surprised. Presumably you'll now want to have the last word too.

Romantically - Jayram's opinion is spot on, I would rather we miss out on the CL if it meant finishing above Spurs.

However, realistically - a one off finish below the scum wouldn't be the end of the world, I'd rather see us in the CL than not in it. I hate Spurs more than some (being an authentic North Londoner) but sometimes you have to take a step backwards to enable you to move forwards.

If I were a spud, I will be setting my sights higher than the small matter of North London rilvalry, if they manage to keep hold of Modric, Bale and also keep Ade sweet, and with a little bit of self belief, I cannot see why they should not be aiming to challenge citeh for the title. If we were in their position, doubt if we would be wondering about finishing higher than spuds!

To be fair, I've seen 2 articles on your board about whether you will finish above us. There are none on the Spurs board that aren't only mentioning Arsenal as top 4 rivals along with Chelsea and Liverpool.

By next week Arsenal should be ahead of atleast Liverpool, maybe Chelsea too, Newcastle will fade eventually and well Spurs...are Spurs
So 3rd is looking very lkely for Arsenal

Even though he can be a bit of a pharisaical knobhead, Jayram when he wants to can be a very intelligent poster and can post without the club he supports clouding his judgement on the reality of how things are. However, in this instance, I just can not believe what he's saying.

Sorry, but Champions League football is far too important. I appreciate that we don't need to be in it to compete financially but it's not as if the board will allow us to spend most of the money we have on transfers anyway and the income we'd lose from the Champions League to the Europa League would be massive. It would also mean losing some very key players like van Persie and possibly even Walcott. The effects that it would have on the club would be completely deleterious.

If it was a choice of Spurs finishing third and us finishing fourth, or us finishing fifth and them finishing sixth, it'd be the former, without a shadow of a doubt. Anyone who says otherwise is clearly not thinking straight. Put the traditional club rivalry to one side and think about the importance of the Champions League. Should we fail to qualify, which is very much a possibility, we would not be able to attract the calibre of players we'd want, there could potentially be a mass exodus, the supporters would rebel, and this vibrant buzz around the club which we currently have would vanish in an instance.

Champions League football is far more important than Spurs finishing above us for one season.

Anyone who claims otherwise is not thinking straight at all.
Where did you learn all them big words Park <whistle>

In what post have I attacked Jayram? I think you'll find that I said that I thought he had his priorities wrong.
When he said that he'd rather us lose players, lose money, lose out on the Champions League instead of being ribbed by the spuds, I said he was off his head and I stand by that.
As for the moderator role, we are also allowed to be fans, with opinions. I'm not moderating anything on this thread, therefore I'm engaging with it as a fan.
And as for last word, again, I'm entitled to my opinion, as is everyone else.

I think you need to understand that the moderator role is not the same as BBC606 where they operate as a separate entity purely to moderate.
Here we are fans first and moderators second. If you have a problem with my moderation, PM me about it.
If you have a problem with my opinion, you're just going to have to deal with it. <ok>

I'd rather we finished above spurs, but I don't think it's worth sacrificing Champions league football, losing players and a loss of income for.

Let's just agree that we care about different things when it comes to football.

I think we probably agree about more than we disagree with - Arsenal winning is the priority.
I think the details about how we achieve that is where we differ, but that's okay - this is a forum to debate after all <ok>

Who cares about the opinions of someone with a serious alcohol problem <whistle>

This is the kinda thing I was talking about yesterday PISKIE. Sometimes you guys can be funny, other times it just detracts a bit from the debate, and makes the place seem a bit cliquey in a kind of "us and them" way. Worries me a bit it might put off new people from joining the forum if they think an outlandish view won't be debated, just dismissed as the ramblings of a drunk with some occassionally personal insults.
