See the feeding frenzy about our players has increased after their England appearances. Even I can see that at the prices quoted it could make economic sense (bearing in mind we also don't know how much Katharina intends to put in the club), but I just want to keep our babies
Not sure if true or not, but the Mail is suggesting that Hodgson will take some players along for experience. Shaw was suggested as one who might be included in the trip, but not the squad. If true, what do you think Saints (or any other team would think of that)...would a club prefer a player to be on holiday rather than training with England.?
I think it would be a good idea to be honest. Let's the youngsters see what tournament football is like, and learn from the seniors without any pressure. The main problem is, how will Roy select who goes? Does he take the whole U21 squad? If he takes a select few youngsters, then they will be seen as getting preferential teatment by the other young players. For example, if Shaw gets to go along for the ride but JWP & Chambers don't, that isn't really sending a good message to them. Potentially it could dent their confidence.
If it happened, England would only take a few up and coming players...Shaw would be obvious choice as one. Pretty sure JWP and Chambers would be pleased for Luke and see it as an incentive to do even better. Hodgson can't concern himself about the feelings of two players not even in contention...if they are that easy to upset, they haven't the character to take the ups and downs of professional football.
We do not need to sell any players for financial reasons. We do not need Ms Liebherr to put anything into the club either. How is that any different to deciding who to take in the squad? There are always going to be people left out, I think they will understand you can't take everyone.
We may not be short of money, but the situation could arrive where Mauricio could take the money from the sale of Shaw and buy the 2-3 players that he thinks we need. I would be sad, but we wouldn't be the first club to sell a star in order to finance a stronger team...especially if we already have a youngster coming through. I don't think Luke would angle for a move next season, but I can see his price increasing to the point that Saints would be willing to accept . Also SFC is a business...books need balancing, profits pocketed and increased wages paid. Lallana, however, is essential if we are to progress.
We can't let Luke go to any big cities or abroad....the road to ruin for any young lad. Unless of course his Mum goes as well to make sure he changes his pants regularly and cleans his teeth...and to chase off any unsuitable girls
Shaw is on a different level to JWP (ATM). There is also lots of competition in midfield. Chambers has only had 1/2 season at senior level- does not justify a call up at this stage. I think it's entirely fair.
JWP has done the same thing as he did last season where he started the season well and then vanishes from the first team. Rodriguez' form hasn't been very good recently so I'd be tempted to start him out wide. Not sure if playing Rodriguez up top is his best position, but still he'd probably play better than Lambert.
